With cost of living so exp, lesser jobs, even the 70k given to new baby, only enough for uni fees next time. I guess the TFR is 0.85 next year.
My guess for 2027 is a resident TFR of about 0.85, with a plausible range of 0.78 to 0.92. That would mean roughly 25,000 to 26,500 resident births and a crude birth rate of about 6.0 to 6.3 per 1,000 residents.
Here's the reasoning:
The main uncertainty is policy. Any big new baby-bonus or housing incentive could nudge the number up, but those effects have historically been small.

Here's the reasoning:
- Starting point: Singapore's preliminary resident TFR for 2025 was 0.87, down from 0.97 in 2024, and the crude birth rate was 6.5 per 1,000 residents.
- Trend: The decline has been steep. The TFR was 1.24 a decade ago. Citizen marriages also fell 5.6% in 2025, which points to fewer first births ahead.
- Why not a rebound: 2027 is a Goat/Sheep year, which some Chinese families see as less auspicious for babies, and the Chinese resident TFR is already down to 0.70.
- Why not a steeper fall: The 2025 drop of about 10% was unusually sharp and partly reverses the Dragon-year bump of 2024. A smaller decline or a flattening is more likely than another double-digit drop, especially with new pro-natal measures being discussed.
The main uncertainty is policy. Any big new baby-bonus or housing incentive could nudge the number up, but those effects have historically been small.
