• You've bought AppleCare+, and your device went some physical damage that rendered it unusuable.
  
• You bought it on the online Apple store and are returning it within 14 days (admittedly this isn't 1-1 exchange, more like no-fuss refund)
  
• There is a genuine manufacturing defect - my Apple Watch started to develop an under-the-surface crack for no reason - was replaced on the spot.

Just go alab and try.. Tell them your reasons and they will test it out. That's if you're under applecare+ though. Or the 1 year warranty

AppleCare+ is essentially insurance, with a deductible when you claim for it.

Did they offer a 1-to-1 exchange a new one(not refurbished)?

Is it better to buy online than physical store if possible?(if you step out of the physical store and have a problem, worse is they give you a refurbished one)

i went to A.Lab as my iphone unable to turn on , gave me a replacement the next day. best thing is replacement also faulty, blue screen of death, replaced again on the spot.

Their exchange policy is amazing
My iMac was scratched upon arrival.
They swapped it out without questions

After purchasing from a Apple Retailer or telco and you have issues after you walk out, the best they can give is a refurb set.

Like 1 hour after purchasing got problem also refurb

That's why I asked earlier if buying online is better

thats right. buying direct from apple online you're covered for refund and return for 14 days. replacement if needful are new units

Yes even if you dip inside water on the last day of AppleCare coverage, they will give you a refurb one

It's $228 for the AppleCare itself and $148 for each repair(up to 2)

Why do people keep making this annoying distinction? Apple refurb sets go through the same QA as new sets, they just don't come with all the accessories and fancy packaging.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with refurb sets, and in some cases they actually extend the warranty on your device.
