(1+ 2Tb) + 2 x 3TB RAID 5 possible

For my file server, currently have the 1TB + 2TB green, the 2TB died, will be going for RMA. thinking of doing a software raid 5 by adding 2 WD red or seagate NAS 3TB HDDs. If any of the 1 or 2TB dies will sell the working one and get another 3TB.

Is this recommended? Or are there any better advice?

Possible, but only 2TB on the 3TB hard disks are used.
Just like you got 3x 2TB hard disks.

Hi, just to confirm, the 1 TB that I have cannot be utilized in the raid?

I was expecting to have 6TB out of the 9TB i have.

I think I read your first message wrongly, assuming a 3 - bay NAS.

If you are using a 4-bay NAS, you can only utilise 1TB on each disc.

selling wouldn't get me back much money. I would probably just get another 3GB and manually backup a copy (like RAID 1) since I can't raid.
