Brand new MBP, 4 days old only, shipped with OS10.9.2

Last night App Store said there was a newer version available, 10.9.3. I didn't think too much, just clicked update (later I realized it is actually a beta version), downloaded 4xx MB and auto-rebooted and started installing... It said it might take 6 mins, which is reasonable.... But one hour later it still said 6 mins, the progress bar didn't move at all, upgrading simply stuck there.

I powered off MBP and restarted it, I was able to enter system as usual, OS is already 10.9.3, everything looks OK.

My questions:

1. Why upgrading stuck? Is it normal for Beta version of OS?

2. I scanned hard disk by using Disk Utility, no issue was found, I also verified permission, a bunch of permission differs were fixed. is that possible a reason?

3. The only thing I did on this brand new MBP before upgrading is, I tried to disable sleepimage by using
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage
sudo ln -s /dev/null /var/vm/sleepimage

Will this change cause upgrading stuck?

Any advice?

Thanks/

yes, changing the system os will affect the update.
Updating your system

You should back up your system before installation. To do this you can use Time Machine.
Do not interrupt the installation process once you have started to update your system.
You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you've modified the operating system through other means.
Choose Apple menu () > Software Update to check for the latest Apple software using the Mac App Store, including this update.
Other software updates available for your computer may appear, which you should install. Note that an update's size may vary from computer to computer when installed using Software Update. Also, some updates must be installed prior to others.

I didn't install any system software. So these sudo commands caused the issue? Will it help if I change back to system default (but still using sudo commands), or as long as one used sudo, you will always get this problem next time upgrade OS?

You can use console to check the logs.

yeah any of such commands might have an effect with the system.

Furthermore if it's a sudo command which elevates the permission. Basically if you don't see the terminal commands from Apple's website directly, there's a chance it will have an effect to the OS.

Best to run time machine just before running such commands and take note of the backup date and time.

What's the reason for disabling sleepimage? Are u having issues with memory?

I don't want the system to write 16 GB memory to SSD everytime when I close the lid...

Boot into recovery mode
Repair permissions and disk.
Try and see if you're able to boot in.

I disable sleep image as well but I didn't run into issues updating.

I am able to enter the system after reboot, OS upgrade is already completed just stuck with the upgrade progress bar.

there's an ongoing bug that 10.9.3 hides the Users folder. Using terminal command to unhide does the job but only for that session, once computer rebooted it will hide the folders again.

Using Automator is an option if you guys have the issue for now until Apple have this fixed.

“It's not a bug.
It's a feature.”

If you have your iTunes updated to 11.2 and find my Mac enabled. The home directory is automatically hidden.
