1000w. Is it enough?

Hi there guys. I'm currently running 280x's plus other items of course in my rig. It's pulling about 690watt off the wall on my wattage meter. I'm thinking of adding one 6970 that draw around 200 to 250 watts.

Will my psu be enough or do I need to improvise somehow with my spare psu to power the 6970 separately?

does your wall socket include the 42inch TV being hooked up or just the PC ?

750w PSU usually is OK for SLI/X-fire but not more than that on the basis you have a not too overkil setup (e.g 4 x HDD raid, multiple fans those kinda thing).

No TV. My plasma alone is 500 watts so it's just the computer. My Psu is a 1000 platinum so just need anothers opinion. Mine is already on xfire. I need to know if adding another card will push the psu to failure?

if the primary role of the machine is to play games then you would want to get a power reading while looping a benchmark or game demo (3dmark etcetc), not when the box is idle.

once you have that then just simply -

Get the IDLE power requirements of your box + the card to get average IDLE power consumption.

same goes for Load, just max out your box and then add on the max power draw from that 3rd card.

if it exceeds 1K then you better not go that route.

In that case. My system idle is 250ish. Load is 690. That means my 2 cards are pulling 440ish.

I still need to disable my one card to game sometimes so not so efficient hehe. At least now I can game with the 6970.

Hi there touching on this again. Finally got the 3rd card in and it's pulling 1040w. I'm currently using a 1000w platinum psu. Will it degrade the performance of the psu more than usage with usage like this. I'm talking 24/7.

Or should I get a 400w of something small to power the last card separately.

If you keep it cool, I don't think it will. If not, it'll draw even more power in the future from the wall due to heat inefficiencies. Btw, upgrade that PSU.
