Intel NIC and .

tyvm..

As you rightly said, pretty much in a "Clueless" state. That's my starting position.

But still have to start somewhere and kick things off.
Not getting any constructive solutions wasn't too far off from my expectations.

So it comes down to trade-offs, i lack the technical aspects of it to provide a clear picture of what i need but i also can't be wasting too much time (i.e sitting on the task, overthinking and do nothing which is probably the more destructive of the two) between the options i can only post with what i can provide as a "testing-ground".

It's more of a i get feedback and improve on that quality over time process.

Thanks again for your inputs. :)
Like others said, tricky part is Connectx-4 lx. Its wasted if just use it for 1 PC, its best to combo the card with a hypervisor like proxmox, consider gear up with these:

- Grab a small used PC, slap the card on it , setup proxmox

- A switch with many sfp+ ports ( CRS305, CRS309 <= someone selling it on carousell atm ) ,

- Grab MPO fanout cable so that you can split the port from 40 to 4x 10G ( miight not work for Connectx-4 , im not sure)

All those should not exceed 600. but yea, gonna have more wires, cant escape that when we talk about 10G, 40G :v

Why not start with simpler setup first, like getting an Minisforum MS-01 or MS-A2, then add a 10Gbe capable switch, and use your existing HB710 as the wireless AP, to get things started.

You can install Proxmox VE and virtual pfSense on the MS-01 or MS-A2, and then add a few Linux containers and VMs inside. This should give you a quick start environment.
Thanks for sharing.. let me explore those Minisforum stuff.

I'm using Mellanox to learn more about linux kernel bypass with "RDMA" which is offloaded from CPU side and parsing network-packets fast.

For the switch, your best bet is probably a MikroTik which supports RDMA by enabling RoCE (RDMA over converged Ethernet) with features like PFC and ECN (RouterOS 7.15 or later?).

To "trial test", a more "meaningful" setup you probably need a HPC (maybe for AI/ML) and a local high speed storage similar to vSAN or equivalent. Hypervisors like enterprise VMware EXSi probably a better fit on this use case if you intend to bring it back to production.

One popular "low-cost" 10G switch in this forum is Sirivision SR-ST3408F managed switch, with quad 10G RJ45 ports and quad 10G SFP+ ports. The price has gone up by quite a bit though. It used to be below RMB 800 during 6.18 sale, now it is at RMB 934 for year 2025 6.18 sale .

All the switches mentioned below are managed swtiches.

Sirivision SR-ST3408F --> RMB 933.98, usual price RMB 1139, quad 10G RJ45 ports + quad 10G SFP+ ports
Sirivision SR-ST3005 --> RMB 963.5, usual price RMB 1175, five 10G RJ45 ports
Sirivision SR-ST3008 --> RMB 1348.9, usual price RMB 1645, eight 10G RJ45 ports
Sirivision SR-ST2808F --> RMB 578.1, usual price RMB 705, eight 10G SFP+ ports.

One very interesting things is that Sirivision now offers 8-port 5Gbe switch: but I do not see the reason to buy it compared to the SR-ST3408F.
Sirivision SR-S5G3008 --> RMB 929.06, usual price RMB 1133, eight5G RJ45 ports

Cheaper now for the more popular first two models, early 11.11 offer, might be cheaper a bit later

Sirivision SR-ST3408F --> RMB 802.64, usual price RMB 968, quad 10G RJ45 ports + quad 10G SFP+ ports

Sirivision SR-ST3005 --> RMB 746, usual price RMB 1050, five 10Gbe RJ45 ports

Sirivision SR-ST3008 --> RMB 1365.1, usual price RMB 1645, eight 10Gbe RJ45 ports

Sirivision SR-ST2808F --> RMB 539.4, usual price RMB 680, eight 10Gbe SFP+ ports.

Just sharing, Sirivision SR-ST3408F is now CNY 775 (4xRJ45 + 4xSFP+)

Compared with Hasivo S600W-4XGT-2S+ (4xRJ45 + 2xSFP+), which will be the better switch if I don't need the extra ports?
Focused on firmware, temps and build quality differences between the 2 brands.

Eight Home Internet now offers predecent pricing for eero Max 7 (along with cheaper eero 7 and eero Pro 7).

Is this eero mesh router good?

62SO7O5.png

Simple firmware features but can be usable due to longer security updates.

I would not buy it due to the lack of FW features but average users may be okay with it.

eero Max 7 Dongknows review -- it is a bad one when at the high initial price. At the price of S$238, it becomes pretty good for a 10G capable triband WiFi 7 router.
https://dongknows.com/amazon-eero-max-7-wi-fi-7-mesh-router-review/

Amazon Eero 7 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router: "Black Friday" special price of S$149.99 all-in delivered from Amazon.sg. S$10 off coupon available if you use a UnionPay or HSBC card to pay for it, and there may be a ShopBack rebate as well. (The 3-pack pricing offer is now out of stock. You could order the 3-pack from Amazon U.S. using EzShip or another forwarder, and you'd save a little money that way if you need 3. For 1 or 2 units it's currently less expensive to order from Amazon.sg.)

Amazon promises security updates for at least 5 years after last retail sale. Currently that means security updates will be available through at least December 31, 2030, although that date is extremely likely to be extended since Amazon will presumably sell the Eero 7 into 2026 and even beyond.

The Eero Official Store on Shopee is selling the dual-band Eero 7 for similar "Black Friday" prices including 2-pack and 3-pack options. With Shopee coupons the pricing might be better than what Amazon.sg offers. (The 2-pack pricing is particularly good.) Also check Carousell. There's a 3 year warranty at least when buying from Amazon or some other official Eero sales channel.

SIMBA has been bundling free D-Link for the 24 month contract offer for a while.

For those on the 12 month contract, SIMBA is offering the following two options.
https://www.simba.sg/broadband/devices
1) D-Link DPN-BE7212GR, $179 (RRP $399)
2) eero Max 7, $399 (RRP $799)

I would not recomend the D-Link one as it has only 512 MB RAM. But it may be okay if you do not have many devices. And since it is free for the 24 month contract plan, just try to use it first to see how it goes.
