Start this thread to talk about routers with SFP+ ports, as well network switch with SFP+ port to be used with the router.

10G capable routers without SFP+ ports are not the topics in this thread.

Examples with dual 10G copper ports:
Asus ROG GT-BE98, ZenWiFi BQ16, GT-AXE16000;
TP-Link Archer BE805, TP-Link HB810 (for Singtel), TP-Link China TL-7TR13090;
Netgear Nighthawk RS700S, Netgear Orbi 970;
eero Max 7;
QNAP QHora-301W with WiFi 6, QNAP QHora-322 without WiFi but 3 x 10GBe ports;
etc.

Please go to the other thread to talk about 5G/10G capable router and switch without SFP+ ports.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...and-switch-rj45-version-no-sfp-ports.7072646/

It will be good for people who use the new VQ issued Huawei OptiXstar S800E XGS-PON ONU stick to report the success or failure of using a router or switch with the Huawei ONU stick.

Thanks bro. For doing this call on behalf of all HBP bro like me lol

2nd day of launch. So I assume they didn’t do a lot of pre-training or Q&A scripts.

To be fair, sfp+ Optical Transceiver hands off is not a common ISP consumer offering. So it’s not wrong to assume a modem is required.

I see that as a progression of our internet broadband offering and the price point for this offering is certainly very exciting for power users. I remember quite a few members here were asking for sfp+ optical hands off option after SI consumer broadband was sold to VQ. Glad VQ manage to commoditize it at such price point.

@xiaofan , time to create a new thread on SFP+ option router 😀

Earlier discussions:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/replace-ont-modem-into-router-with-sfp.6987096/

VQ is now providing the option to use an XGS-PON ONU stick (no need an ONT/ONR) for their XGS-PON based 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan.
https://viewqwest.com/sg/residential/faq/about-sfp/

Q: What is SFP+ and the model provided by ViewQwest?
A: SFP+ is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver designed for telecommunications and data communications. It supports high-speed data rates of up to 10Gbps.

ViewQwest provide the Huawei OptiXstar S800E - S800EXGS01, a miniature Optical Network Unit (ONU). This unit can be inserted into the SFP+ port of routers or network devices to enable 10-Gigabit-capable Symmetric Passive Optical Network (XGS-PON) access, suitable for high-definition video transmission or high-performance networking applications.

Q: Can I use the Huawei OptiXstar S800E with any router or network equipment?
A: The Huawei OptiXstar S800E is compatible with many routers and network devices that support GPON or XGSPON technology. However, it's essential to verify compatibility with your specific equipment.

Q: What devices provided by ViewQwest are compatible with the Huawei OptiXstar S800E?
A: The devices offered by ViewQwest that support the Huawei OptiXstar S800E include the Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE and the ASUS RT-AX89X.

FPCdu4t.jpeg

BTW, this is also applicable for those who use GPON Stick to replace ISP's ONT/ONR for 1Gbps/2Gbps/2.5Gbps plan.

XGS-PON Stick is usually quite expensive so nobody has done the replacement of XGS-PON ONT/ONR with their own XGS-PON Stick previously. But now VQ is the first one to provide this option for power users. Not so sure if any other ISPs will follow (unlikely).

More about ONT/ONR replacement using GPON stick.ONU.

1. Low cost 10G SFP+ RJ45 modules
1) 10Gtek --> 10Gtek Taobao shop lists Asus (and Xiaomi) in the list of compatible brands

10Gtek is a good shop to check out, at RMB198. They have the ability to check compatibility with different brand, including TP-Link China or Global version.

They have English website as well.
https://www.10gtek.com/transceiver

2) You can also try the following Taobao shop mentioned earlier in this page. The shop offers low temperature module. You can check with them about the compatibility with RT-BE88U.

Sharing a good SFP 10gbE adapter. Found something that has only 1.35W output. Haven't tested on full load but this runs pretty cool on my UDM-PRO at only 40 degrees. Able to achieve 10gbE link on a 30m CAT6A cable. EDIT: meant to say my PCIe PC adapter is using AQC113 chipset.

(Select the 1.35W version).

3) Asus China also recommends some brands of SFP+ 10G RJ45 modules if you ask their Taobao shop. One users mentioned about the recommended SFP+ RJ45 modules for Asus RT-BE88U by Asus China. He has also posted the recommended 10G SFP+ RJ45 module for Xiaomi BE10000 by Xiaomi China.

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/simba-fibre-broadband.6883466/page-144#post-154277796
On a separate note:

Xiaomi China recommends these two SFP+ to 10G RJ45 modules for Xiaomi BE10000:

1. Zhong Ke Optoelectronics 中科光电 ZK-10G-TX (10G) with support for auto-negotiation (1G, 2.5G, 5G, 10G)
2. ADOP SFP-10G-T-AQR (10G) with support for auto-negotiation (1G, 2.5G, 5G, 10G)

ASUS China recommends this SFP+ to 10G RJ45 adaptor for ASUS RT-BE88U:

1. TP-Link TL-SM510U with support for auto-negotiation (1G, 2.5G, 10G)

Hope this helps!

2. XGS-PON ONU Stick vs normal XGS-PON ONT/ONR

1)Typical connection with XGS-PON ONU Stick:
FTP -- Fibre cable -- Router with SFP+ port with XGS-PON ONU stick as main router

If the router has two SFP+ port, the other SFP+ port can be used as LAN port and connect to a switch with SFP+ using DAC cable or Fibre cable.
Router SFP+ LAN port -- DAC cable or Fibre cable -- Switch (2.5G switch or 10G switch) with SFP+ uplink

2) Normal connections with XGS-PON ONT/ONR
FTP -- XGS-PON ONT or budged ONR -- Router with SFP+ WAN Port (need to add SFP+ 10G copper module)

For nomal connections, if the router has SFP+ LAN port, it can be connected to a switch with SFP+ using DAC cable or Fibre cable.
Router SFP+ LAN port -- DAC cable or Fibre cable -- Switch (2.5G switch or 10G switch) with SFP+ uplink

Since we are taking about powerful router here, I tend to think it does not make too much sense to use unbridged ONR and live with Double NAT.

3) There is a successful story to use 3rd party XGS-PON ONU Stick to replace ISP's ONT.

I put a question mark with Asus RT-AX89X because if it not very clear to me whether the SFP+ can be uased as WAN port. I think it is a decent option with 10Gbps plans.

As of now, only UDM SE and TP-Link Archer GE900 are mentioned to be working. Better wait a while to get more info to see the compatibility of the XGS-PON ONU.

BTW, Deco BE95 may not work in Singapore (quad band with dual 6GHz band). It has been listed as "Coming Soon" for very long by TP-Link Singapore.

That has been confirmed, no Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro for Singapore, only BQ16 (S$899, available for quite a while already).

Option 1 and 2 are the same in reality, just different form factor, normal desktop PC and mini desktop PC.

I tend to believe both will work.

You will need to install pfSense/OPNsense/OpenWRT/MikroTik RouteOS/etc, either bare metal, or as a virtual machine on top of virtualization platform (eg: PVE, ESXi, xcp-ng, unraid, etc).

can consider bpi-r4 as well... filogic 880.. so reasonably speedy
but more for diyers willing to get hand dirty. but plus side is cheap and highly adaptable.

edit 1:
forget to add .. very cool running and passive cooling works well. also very power efficient.

edit 2:
bpi-r4 does not work with huawei s800e directly. the module does not power up properly.
however you can use get one of those cheapo realtek switches with 4X 2.5Gbe and 2Xsfp+ and use it like a "media" changer.
