Singapore strives for balance between USA and mainland China. If either side gets too weak , Singapore is screwed as the stronger side may attempt to pressure SG to lean towards their interest (especially China - see the past incidents).

USA is weak at the moment due to Trump and I doubt the damage done by him can be undone within the next election cycle (also, there is a chance that he is voted back in and he will do more damage). Therefore, an election result that weakens the mainland is actually advantageous to us.

Tsai got alot of loyalists in the party, not easy to oust. Even those who resigned or got kicked out of the party, most of them highlighted her superior man management. LQD never stood a chance.
