11/11 hoot new Laptop for programming work

I am currently using an aftershock laptop (I forgot which model but I7 7700HQ + gtx1650ti), mainly using it for my programming work and to surf the net to stream videos and occasional light gaming. (stardew valley and pokemmo)
Recently my work require me to screen and voice record and my laptop seems unable to use the inbuilt xbox game console record feature or OBS studios which is what everyone else is using. I have to borrow another laptop to do that and I am getting frustrated feeling like a burden.
So now I want to buy a new laptop to replace my old aftershock. I'm not a hardware junkie but I heard that for programming works don't need much of graphic power and even now I'm using my friend's asus vivobook 15 (supposedly lower specs with integrated iris graphics) I have not been experiencing any difference. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Currently considering to buy a Asus Vivobook 15 also for my work as I am actually quite happy with the system with it's light weight. Looks super sleek and have fingerprint scanner also! I don't usually carry my laptop around only from my desk to bed but my Aftershock laptop feels so heavy after trying the vivobook.
Just posting here to see if anyone have any suggestions for laptop recommendations or any fellow programmers can advice me of what to look out for in a laptop to futureproof in case I need more processing power in the future.

And thinkpad very ugly woi. Look like some old school office laptop hahahaha

I don't know if I do programming work need the graphics or not also that's why want to ask some experienced programmers here. For what I read online, only dealing with AI need graphic power??? I no experience in those to comment.

According to https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/how-to-choose-a-laptop-for-programming-a9e36f8b4cfe/, integrated graphics card is sufficient. "a nice Intel core i5 or i7 processor with a frequency of 3GHz or more should suffice for most people" and 16gb ram and tons of SSD storage.

I had a problem with obs too with gtx1650. Had to choose integrated graphics to encode instead. Try choose intel quicksync.

Look for AMD 5000 series unless u dun mind older cpu.

If so you can get those with 11 gen Intel processors with Intel Iris Xe. There are many laptops with these specs.

For programming, go with more vertical aspect ratio such as 16:10 or 3:2.

If you have the budget, LG Gram 16 is very good. Just 1.19KG for a 16-inch display. Doesn't get hot and battery life is good.

Get lenovo legion 5 better if u looking around 1.7 ~ `1.8k budget 3060 6gb 5800h use coupon (Coupon2) $1813 only .

I bought mine 1.7k but came as a faulty set ask for 1 to 1 exchange waited 1 mth but cant complain they change to legion 5 pro for me.

Just got myself a ASUS Vivobook 15 pro oled and I have to say, I'm LOVING IT.
Super lightweight for a 15inch laptop. Ryzen 7 5800H + rtx3050 graphic card. So far able to run all the games that I want to without much heat problems. Have not tested on AAA games yet but I don't have any and I doubt it can run properly anyways.

Hoot tio during 11/11 sale for 1.7k.

Just want to ask, what are the more CPU demanding tasks that I would be expecting to be doing on my laptop?

Usage depends on your project, downtime processing stuff can be VERY long and stressful with a lousy CPU. My previous project needs a lot more power than my current one.

Something that takes 3 minutes on my desktop can take 25+ minutes on my laptop with 1165G7, sometimes much longer. Things always suddenly do not respond because the CPU process things slow and maintain at 100% resource usage for long periods. Then need to keep opening and closing apps to reduce resource usage, all these really take up a lot of time.

Also, SE is not just about coding, there is a lot to be done and need many apps running in the background. For example, App Servers, VMs, Emulators, Containers, IDEs, Database, Building, Testing, Documentation, Administrative tasks and many many more.

A good PC will change your life, a lot more freedom and less headache because a lot of multitasking is required.

Also the machine is relatively light weight at 1.45kg for portability.

i am a bit concerned about the OLED screen, does it cause burn in easily?

even samsung s21 has burn in... nothing has changed. Image retention problem is worse before screen burning in happens



have you seen macbook pro with retina display? It looks really good even after 6 years without oled problems. Better you find wqhd laptops instead

meanwhile me compiling code on my ageing 4510u... some more os limit power draw on battery so not 100% utilisation when on the go and a lot slower.
cant wait to switch to an affordable zen 3 laptop
