I'm talking abt the 11.6" non-touchscreen laptops that are under S$400. They use Celeron dual (or quad) core CPU.

I noticed that the battery is built-in and not detachable. Is this the norm for 11.6" laptops? How long can the built-in battery last if streaming HD videos over Wi-Fi?
What if I want to upgrade the battery to a higher capacity one?

Got any 11.6" laptops with detachable battery pack?

I doubt the mobile Celeron CPU is unaceptably slow.

In my opinion never get Celeron/atom as they are really slow.
If want cheap options than try to look for AMD A4/A6 laptop those
are still faster than Celeron and not to forget it also
have a intergraded Radeon graphics.
If want to save all the fuse just get a tablet.
During work, I use my tablet over my laptop.
Android, iOS now have Adobe reader, MS office so
it can supplement a laptop.

Yea.. either wat techidiot said.. or u may want to look into the pentium chipset (N3700) .. i think the performance is atom<celeron< pentium< Core i3 < i5 < i7 ..

acer has pentium models and dell has core i3 models if i am not wrong.

The batteries are not built-in. The casing design these days are one piece to make the laptop look sleeker and slimmer. If you open the bottom cover, you will see that the battery is detachable. There is a connector to the motherboard. You can simply replace the battery later. But you can't add a higher capacity battery cos the space is limited. It isn't like the past where the battery is a clip-on piece and if you buy an extended battery, your laptop will have a 'backside' protruding from the rear.

Finally, if you're just watching videos, I really think buying a tablet is better value... for portability, nothing rivals the tablet. Just get a 10.1 inch tablet. If that's too small then why not get a large LCD monitor (24" below $300) plus a tv box like Xiaomi or something equivalent... that will do... you can simply plug in your storage device like a thumb drive or portable hard disk and watch straight from the storage.
