Hi guys,

I am now shopping for a new 12-inch tablet for my mum mostly to watch video, photos and sometime some simple pdf reading.

Besides the Xiaomi 6s Pro 12.4 are there any other recommendations? Hope to keep the cost low but get decent specs.

Lenovo P12 or Samsung Tab S9 FE. Someone said he bought Samsung Tab S9 FE for $400? Like no horse run price

Do note that tab s9 FE has both 10.9 inch and 12.4 inch. Samsung FE devices are not really value for money. People buy it mainly due to the branding, software and support. $600+ already for the 10.9 inch (Note when some people said 'they bought at xxx price at a significant discount, it usually contains their personal points or discounts that may not be available to others. Cannot use for consideration)

Lenovo with it's confusing naming conventions, has many models. Their global versions are usually expensive with lacklustre support. This 2023 tab p12 will be no exception with it's dimensity 7050 (even weaker than original mi pad 5). $570+ inclusive of pen and keyboard.

But at least it's global rom is better than it's buggy and quirky china zui.

If TS want to keep his budget low and under $400, there are just these 3 options.

Blackview tab 18 (paying over $300 for a g99 device from a lesser known brand is... Hmmm)
Lenovo xiaoxin pad pro 12.7 (sd 870, china zui rom, can be quirky and buggy even though it has more features)
Xiaomi pad 5 12.4 (sd 870, china hyper OS. Much better than the china miui it was running on previously. Near EOL though)

Someone said he bought at < $500 so likely smaller one.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I settled on the Blackview Tab 18

Well, good luck with it. Although I listed it as one of the tablets u can buy for under $400, I myself would never had gotten it.

It's those kind of device that sounds good on paper and EOL on arrival, as blackview hardly ever delivers any ota security updates, much less an Android version update. In 2024, it's more advisable to spend on a device that comes with android 14, or at least guaranteed that it will get an Android 14 update for a device that cost more than $300.

It's screen and battery are also lackluster for a 12 inch. Competing devices delivers much better resolution and a larger, 10k mAh battery. What blackview delivers are good for 10/11 inch, but for 12 inch, nah.

At over $300, it can hardly be considered as a 'budget device' and within the same price bracket u can get more powerful snapdragon devices. And at the cost of having lte and microsd, u are compromising performance. G99 and snapdragon devices are very far apart in performance and the things u can do on it.

Right now, the new Redmi pad pro offers a very good competition now. It should be in your consideration range. Much better screen and battery, android 14 out of the box from a much more reliable brand.

This is likely to be the cheapest 12 inch tablet in the market from a known brand. It's processor is very low end, only suitable for light tasks. Only good for very light users who only want a big screen tablet.

It has a g99 variant with 11k mAh battery, at a higher price.

Like blackview, don't expect them to have good ota updates and support. I listed these for awareness, not recommendation, like I did for blackview.

If really want a recommendation from me, I will prefer the ones from Xiaomi or Lenovo.
