120fps gaming rig

Hi. I've had my old rig for 4 years now and thinking of building a new one from scratch. I'm interested in building a gaming rig which is able to push constant 120fps as I own a 1080p 120hz monitor.

I would like recommendations for a setup which includes everything except monitor, kb/m, speakers etc. I need a new OS, preferably Win7 as well as an SSD for installing OS. ODD is not required.

My budget for this is 2k. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I might give overclocking a try but not if my budget does not allow

You probably need a faster ram when you over clock the higher you go your ram speed would slightly take a small dip in speed.

$1883 build at tradepac unless stated.

For a cheaper alternatives you can go for a Leadtek gtx 770 for $585.

Frankly, you would need 780x2 SLI for high end games, if you want to push 120fps..

Take crysis 3 for example... ppl use 3x titans on 3x monitors setup, they can get 100+ fps...

But, it depends on what games you wan plae... high end, sure cant hit 120 fps... mid end games high chance can..

And play med/high settings on 120hz monitor is like a slap on your face... lol...

You can't tell the difference between 60fps and 120fps. The only advantage you'd have is that you'll less likely to have drops in fps while playing. With your budget, I'd suggest getting a single high end card, GTX770, HD7970 or GTX780 if budget permits.

I think for your case if you want can drop the idea of oc and you can fit a single 780. Probably still need to up your psu.

You can't expect to push all games to 120fps for sure.

Actually when I was reading most of the reviews on 120hz monitor. The best and cheapest solution if he wants to play on 1080p and 120hz the best cheapest combo is a 760 sli config. This will give him a good decent fps without AA. Only 2 game that cannot get high fps with 120hz is crysis 3 and hitman.

The rest can be able to get between 90-120fps on 120hz.

Usually u won't notice the difference unless u r playing racing or high pace fps. Any other games u won't notice it.

Benchmark and performance wise 120hz takes up a lot of resources.

Likewise in actual fact. 60hz or 120hz it may not have much of a difference.

Well it does to a certain extent. If you have a large screen, probably a 40 inch tv, you can see the screens refreshing rate difference. On small screens the refreshing rate is so fast on 60hz, that you cant tell the difference. A human eye cant even see that fast. But on bigger screens it is slightly more obvious.

Especially in movie screenings on tv and on monitor. 60hz vs 300hz tv. Just play one action movie and you can feel that a 300hz tv is way much faster till the extent whereby it moves so close to real time that you cant see trails when a plot of movie scenes like cast are moving around, a car crash, Optimus fighting with Shockwave, etc etc.

Now take that movie and go to a smaller screen at 60hz which in this case a monitor. Technically speaking It should be lagging behind. But it isnt obvious at all on our naked eyes. Unless you put your eyes way nearer to screen to see that pixel change color.

This is also due to the pixel density of the screens. A monitor likewise has a smaller dimension but at 1080P it is so dense that you cant see the pixels changing color at whatever rate it is between 60hz or 120hz.

But on a bigger screen, that is where the pixels are largely spaced out. And yes this is quite obvious from a 60hz to lets say the current market tv that has around 500hz to 600hz refreshing rate.

Unless you go for 4k tv on a 55inch screen haha.

Once u go 120hz on first person shooters u will not want 60hz.. Hehe
