Paiseh paiseh, ready wrongly ...

But hor, in this link

http://shopap.lenovo.com/sg/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon/

there are 3 types of X1 Carbon:

1) Laptop Low End - $2,842
2) Laptop with 4G - $3,053
3) 4th Generation High End - $3,409

Why are the difference in price so great ? The only difference in the specs that I can see is in 4th Generation High End, the Ram is 16GB RAM instead of 8 GB Ram.

Also, between (1) and (2), the specs are the same ....

Does it mean if I buy (1), the laptop cannot detect and connect 4G ?

Thanks

Yea. U need to check with the school which 1 they offer. I think is the non 4G. But do you really need to put a SIM card in the laptop? It's supposed to be using wifi. Or tethering.
And that low end lol you can get for 2k in school with 3 years warranty on site plus adapter. That's why it's more worth it b

Oh 4G is for SIM card. Certainly don't need that as long as the end one can surf via wifi is good oredi. I thought they were referring to cannot receive 4G wifi signal.

Anyway, why are the models so much different in price when the specs are the same as highlighted in my earlier post ?

Thanks

Technology different. They charge premium for new technology like SIM card for laptop.

But yea. They have their own pricing guide. And stuff Lenovo can customize it. So u just customize to the school spec and see price different.

Hi bro,

Need some advise ... I think I do not want to spend that much (> $2K) for a laptop so I will forget the X1 Carbon. My budget is <$1.5K

Laptop 1
I originally wanted to get the Asus UX305-FCO13T at $1,398.
13"
i5-6200U
8gb RAM
256 SSD
1.3kg
But this model is not in the NTU lineup.

Laptop 2
So what you think about the Lenovo ThinkPad 260 at $1,319.31
12.5"
i7-6500U
8gb RAM
256 SSD
1.44kg

Laptop 3
I just compared against the price from Best Denki for ThinkPad 260 is going for $1,949 some more is i5 and HDD (instead of SSD)
12.5"
i5-6200U
8gb RAM
1TB HDD

Q1. Since the price difference between Laptop 2 Vs Laptop 3 is quite substantial, it makes sense to buy from NTU, right ?

Q2. Also what you think of Laptop 1 (buy from outside) Vs Laptop 2 (buy from NTU) ?

Q3. is there a noticeable difference between 1.44kg Vs 1.3 kg ?

Thanks

I'll still go for the Lenovo. The discount is higher. The quality is better. The warranty is longer. And u get on site support plus loan set in event of failure.
The different in weight is at most an apple. Pretty sure it isn't much.

Nope...if u want a bigger hdd.. U can go for 300... The biggest ssd for s100 is 256

Don't really want an expensive notebook, As my aim is to use for microsoft offices and possible use back my 1TB HDD from old notebook.

Hi there,

Is there is a noticeable difference for a 12.5" display between:

a) 12.5" HD 1366 x 768

vs

b) 12.5" FHD IPS 1920 x 1080 ?

Basically what's the difference between IPS and non-IPS screen and between HD and FHD screen ?

And whether there's a noticeable difference between a screen resolution of 1366x768 vs 1920x1080 in a 12.5" screen ?

Thanks

IPS screen has greater viewing angles so images won't be washed out when you are viewing from the side. IPS panel is pretty much the standard criteria for a decent screen so unless you have a tight budget or you simply don't care about the quality of the screen, just go with one with IPS panel.

As for resolution, simply means that the higher the resolution, the clearer the image quality. I personally will never go below 1920×1080 be it computer or handphone screen.

Another aspect about choosing screens is colour accuracy but that's mainly for image editing purpose.
