whats ur budget?

1440p144 is only largely obtainable with the very best of last gen (3090 ti, 6950 xt), though also depends on the games u play. i would direct u to to my other recommendation from yesterday: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...-on-4k-pc-parts.6838127/page-2#post-144901229
i5 13600k + asus tuf gaming b660m plus wifi ii748
kingston fury beast rgb 2x 16gb ddr5 5200c40248
wd black sn850x 1tb189
msi rx 6900 xt gaming x trio1129
msi a750gf 750w150
prices from dynacore.
6900 xt is abt 10% slower than 6950 xt, though it still averages abt 140 fps at 1440p in hwu testing and the latter is hard to find locally. what games do u play? if they are less demanding than aaa games used in media reviews, then maybe the 6900 xt is enough, or can even settle for a cheaper gpu.
u can then get a good air cooler like the scythe fuma 2 rev b for $83, or an aio, and any case that allows the parts to fit, maybe around $100-150.

Budget about 2.2k

From the benchmarks I see 3080 is good enough for me. Games I play are those online multiplayer like Escape From Tarkov, Apex Legends, MW2 war zone etc. For these games, Med-High settings are good enough for me.

For CPU, I don't think I need that powerful cpu, besides 5700x is on sale at the moment. Same goes for

For SSD, I think Samsung Evo 2TB is more worth than wd black sn850x 2tb (expecting discount during Black Friday).

For the cooler, I was thinking I could save some money, as I read that 5700x is not high power draw CPU, so a cheap cooler would be fine.

Your parts list look good but over my budget

Thanks!

Is your software dev application platform agnostic ?
If no special requirement, it depends on your budget.

Is your 1440P an ultrawide or normal 16:9 aspect ratio?

I asked because many software engineers like myself prefer more than one screen or an ultrawide. If it's ultrawide, for sure, u will be sacrificing a lot of settings to reach those frames.

Next, there are some key things to take note of.

1) The 4000D case requires 1 x USB 3 Header and 1x USB-C Header on the motherboard. However, the Asus TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II has only 1 x USB 3 header. I would suggest a board that has a 2 x USB 3 header so you can use an adapter to convert one of them to USB-C.

2) 4000D only comes with 2 fans. You wanna get another 2 x arctic p12s to ensure the system is cooled well.

2) For the ram, get the G.Skill Ripjaws V instead with CL16 timings.

3) As for PSU, if you wanna save money get the Superflower Leadex III 850W locally.

fair enough, but local stock 3080 starts at the same price as the 6900 xt i mentioned (also local) and is slower, so why not just get the 6900 xt? u get lower power draw too.

well vms and software dev do require powerful cpus. for local set, i see that 12600kf + b660 combos are a little more expensive than 5700x + b550 combos but 12600kf offers more threads (good for vm) and hence is faster for all core tasks like code compile. do consider the intel combo if u find the cpu and mobo for a good price on bf.

Nvidia has fewer drivers n compatibility issues. If you are doing anything with emulation, it's the way to go.

Also, assigning all these slow threads from slow cores to VM may affect consistency.
