MSI B85M G43 + i5-4460 ~ $355
Kingston HyperX 1600mhz 2x4GB kit ~ $112
WD Blue 1TB ~ $67
Plextor M6S 128gb SSD ~ $104
Powercolor 280 ~ $335
Superflower HX 600 ~ $108
Sharkoon BD28 ~ $73
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ~ $115
LG DVD Drive ~ $21

$1290

Is there much difference between the R9 280X and the 280 (other than the price)?

What games would I be able to play with the 280? Am starting to think that I could just get something cheaper and upgrade in the future perhaps the 270/270x range? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Aren't they both blue color?

MSI Global B85-G43

I managed to get the CSO to waive it :D as well as priority shipping

I checked it supports 240v. Thanks for the heads up :)

Roy meant the gaming version not the original blu version lols

MSI got many different kinds of board produced in both blue and red.

Do take note of the word gaming.

MSI B85M G43 - Blue
MSI B85 G43 - Blue
MSI B85 G43 Gaming - Red

Blue color schemes board are name as Classic series board.

Gaming series are distinctive with red black/brown scheme, it has a dragon symbol in it. With dragon mosfet heatsink. Usually come with Audio Boost and also Qualcomm Killer Ethernet. Unlike Classic, that has no Audio Boost and using Realtek Ethernet.

OC series are the high end segment, which comes in yellow black scheme. They feature more stuffs like Intel LAN, some with intel Wifi, Audio Boost etc.

280 vs 280x is a different tier of GPU. In Nvidia context, it performs somewhere around a GTX760 & a GTX770 respectively.

As for gaming please go for the r9 280x instead if budget allows. Don't just buy something at a lower tier for now and decide to upgrade by just 1 step higher somewhere in the near future. 280x will be a leap forward also.

If budget permits, and you got no choice, you can still go for the 280. It somewhat performs well. But do take note that the newer model that just launch such as the 285 will be taking over as a newer card.

I just noticed PC Themes has the PowerColor R9 285 TurboDuo at $369, should I stick with the 280X or go with the 285?

At $369 is fairly cheap. But is a new launch price point. So a little bit more expensive than usual.

But at that price $39 more you can get a 280x.

Just one question when you purchase the parts at tradepac then assembly at pcthemes, do you guys like bring a trolley to carry the stuff to pcthemes or do you just individually carry what you can bit by bit to pcthemes? lol

I am confused, isn't that worse? From level 5 to level 2?

Put it this way, u buy things from M1, and u bring to singtel to ask them for configuration. U think Singtel will entertain you? Obviously, no right?

#02-32 is a shop whereby u can ask for help in assembling. Whether u wan to bring to lvl 2 or not is up to you. Besides, pct is at lvl 4, TP is at lvl 5, so its still mafan for u.

You can always take items partially to #02-32 via lift.

keep us posted :s13::s13::s13:

Lol, i will be surprised if PC themes accepted it and he pay them $20-30 for that 1-3 hrs job....

Maybe it will show whether PCT is desperate for business or not...

IIRC, i did ask yilong before a few years back when i was a newbie. He said he can assemble for me for a fee about $20-30. In the end, i didn't went back to PCT to assemble as i felt bad doing it. :o

Not sure if its just me, but i feel that its bad etiquette that you buy from Tradepac at lower prices and ask PC themes to do the dirty work for you/tradepac (assembling).

If TS buay pai seh or thick skinned type, he can do us a favour and try that for us... Social experiment..
