1720 hard drive imminent failure

Hi all

I have been getting the above prompt whenever I reboot my HP desktop. The desktop then takes a very long time to boot up.

I am now considering getting a new internal hdd to replace the original hdd. As the desktop did not come with a recovery disk, i need to create a recovery media to restore the desktop to te factory software settings.

Would appreciate any advice on my above solution and also, is there anything i should watch out for in getting a replacement hdd?

is your hdd IDE or SATA? if SATA can just buy anyone and install your win10 OS can already, dun need to install those bloatware. and once installed, just copy and paste your data into your new drive.

it's a SATA hdd. I do not want to install those bloatware too but i don't have any win10 os. this HP desktop came with a windows 7 and i did the free upgrade to windows 10.

Use crystal diskinfo to check health of hard disk like bad sectors etc and see recommended health by them.

Also to double confirm can use hdtune to physically test and write for bad sectors

Seems your good to go. Might wanna consider ssd as its quite cheap ( though I read prices may go up) if you don't have alot of data
