Before you mention, pls read the article. It's not as bad as a lot others who strike big lottery.

She tried to invest in biz but failed.

It's still very poor decision though.

for me if don't buy big ticket item (house and car), 400 k can last more than10 years

Yeah the strange part is she don't know how that $400,000 was spent. Usually when we do cash flow interview with clients, we can always account for where the money goes to. $400,000 is too big a sum to miss. I think she is hiding some info.

$1m gone in one year: Widow of killed Changi Airport worker is now broke

If you don't know how to manage your money, give you $10 millions also no use...

In money management, there are defensive and offensive strategy.

Defensive is to protect your wealth and offensive is to grow your wealth.

Without defensive strategy, no matter how much you have or earn, you will still spend them all by the end of the day.

Without offensive strategy, no matter how much you saved, you will still never get to live the lifestyle you want.

You need both to succeed in life. Many people only have one or the other, but seldom have both. The worst are those that lack of both.

She is the type that lack both, that's why she ends up where she started.

I sympathize her situation, but give her another million, she'll still loss it again.

It's probability better to just teach her money management.

If she's a gambler, then situation is a lot worst.

Don't think teaching her money management would help. Its probably too complicated for her. As long as there are people around her who want to con her for her money, she will still fall for it. She got an adviser and still lose her money.

She might be testing water to see if people would sympathize her again but not going to get much.

Actually, I do agree with you that money management is too complicated for her.

But, a smart investors don't get con easily even by their relatives.

It's very obverse that the news article is trying to get sympathy for her and maybe get some donation, but unlikely to work this time round, she had her chance and blow it away.
