1st time gaming PC need help

Hi pros, this is my 1st time attempting to get a gaming pc and I am damn new to all these kinds of stuff. I'm intending to play games like GTA V & Witcher 3 1080p @ 60fps. I need tips on whether my specs can be improved or not. My specs :

CPU: i5-4690
Mobo : Gigabyte H97-D3H ($477) /Gigabyte Z9X Gaming 3 ($541)
SSD: Samsung 850EVO 120Gb ($129)
Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120V Plus water (85)
Memory: 2 x Crucial 4GB DDR3-1600 ( These 2 are 4 months old)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1Tb 1002FAEX (From my old 3years PC)
Video Card : MST GTX980 ($890)
Case: NZXT H230 ($120)
Monitor: 24" BENQ GL2460 (179)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W Semi Modular ($119)
Total: 1999/2063

Initially my budget is 2000, but I don't mind exceeding the budget by a bit.Price i use Laser Distribution as reference de.

I am torn between getting a H97 or Z97 mobo. While I want to build a gaming PC, I am not intending to OC the CPU/mobo. So I am not sure if there will be a difference in performance or not. I am able to afford a Z97 board but I just don't want to be wasting money on stuff that I am not using.

Also for the time being I don't think i will be OCing the video card, so do I need a cooler if I don't OC the video card?

Don't need water cooling if you don't intend to OC, might want to get a new HDD if yours is already 3 years old though.
Chipset wise B85/H87/97 will do, no need for Z97
Get a different PSU if possible, heard bad reviews for the capacitors of the CX series.

Is there a difference between a air cooler and a case fan? Or are they just a difference in naming. Thanks for the advice.

A case fan is just a fan. An air cooler (for CPU) includes the heat-sink as well. For a first build, it might be better to avoid water cooling.

As someone had said earlier, the 212 evo is a good choice.

since u don't oc, even a stock cooler will do fine. 212 evo is more for those air cooler die hards but want to oc. also, it's a tower so not all may like the look.

Hmm...would a single 980 be sufficient for Witcher 3 at 1080p 60fps?
I'd thought SLI 980 or TitanX would be better.
