1st time to Japan

Hi, planning a trip to Japan with a frd. As this is our first time, I would like to ask a few questions. Hopefully some of u regulars can help us out.

1) which airline is ok JAL,ANA or SQ?
2) is it a smooth route to travel to Tokyo airport and from airport we will go straight to Kyoto or Osaka?
3) is it better to stay in Kyoto or Osaka?
4) some recommendations for hotel?

The adivce I would have is to consider price, landing time and which airport... more on that later

2) is it a smooth route to travel to Tokyo airport and from airport we will go straight to Kyoto or Osaka?
Haneda airport is nearer the city center, Narita is a bit further away. You can connect to Shinkansen to get to other parts of Japan pretty easily and quickly.
Things have changed a little bit now there are bag checks which I am not sure if it is mandatory or random.

I personally prefer landing in Haneda and then leaving via Narita. The lesser the transfers the better especially when your bags are full of goodies you bought along the way.

3) is it better to stay in Kyoto or Osaka?
If you are doing Osaka+Kyoto then Tokyo. Yes, when you are over in Kansai base yourself in either Kyoto or Osaka.
The distance between Kyoto and Osaka is manageable, you just have to start your day slightly earlier if you want to make full use of the available daylight.

4) some recommendations for hotel?
need to consider your budget

What is the best way to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka ?
Shinkansen, normally if you are considering Kyoto+Osaka and then Tokyo that would make it worth your while to get a JR Pass.

[all are ok lah. if u want direct flight, there is also delta airline. for non-direct flight, there are cathay, malaysia, scoot etc.
end of the day, it depends on ur budget and time as mentioned by cancer81]

[how about getting open-jaw flight that arrives in osaka and depart from tokyo?]

3) is it better to stay in Kyoto or Osaka?
[personal preference. osaka will have more to do at night with lots of malls and eateries. kyoto have nothing much at night, but can enjoy the peace and quiet. it is only 30min between osaka and kyoto, so i will recommend staying in just one location throughout]

4) some recommendations for hotel?
What is the best way to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka ?
[fastest will be by shinkansen, about 3hr. if u are on a budget, there is overnight highway buses. budget domestic flight is cheap too, but there is the hassle of getting to the airport and checking-in etc.]

Planning to stay in Osaka. Any hotels for recommendation prefer clean rooms not overly priced. Thanks

U can try booking.com lo, play around the price n look at the reviews lo. If u r adventurous can try airbnb lo.
