2.4Km tips

Hi all,

For 2.4km training, I think I could one of those guys who is really one who was those born runner to a noob runner.

When i was 15, I did 8:59 for 2.4 but after drinking and partying in poly. I found myself running 13/14mins 1month prior to enlisting. Thus i grind myself(easiest way for 2.4km training is by running it)

I'll explain why in the next post. But after 1 month, I got up to 11mins which at least secure a pass.

After BMT, i was posted to OCS, I was running 10:40 in my first 1-3weeks. (Still 1 minutes before hitting gold) then we were told we will have RT if we don't get gold and in OCS RT means Saturday burn and RT is conducted by a Commando NCO who will really make u do stairs PT and run. So in the 1 week, i took up some advice from my friend who ran 7:30mins.

He said:

Step1: 3days before IPPT, carry out hyrdation plan. Make sure you're never thirsty and keep pee-ing(basic rule of thumb)

Step2: Stretch and keep do jumping jack just minutes before the run.

Step3: Be smart, don't burst all out in first few round. Follow a runner who can get 9:40, try not to be opposite of him. I.e when youre running he should not be at the opposite of the track.

Step4: Breathe in deep and hard thru your nose for first few rounds then when you're rly tired, breathe thru your mouth.

Step5: Don't ever stop until you FAINT, PUKE or DIE!

So i followed, and in 1week time, which I didn't train by running or doing anything and just simply follow that 5 steps. I miraculously got 9:40. Exactly 1min faster and ever since then, i never looked back. I am now a running back to my glorious days.

I hope this post will help those struggling with 2.4km.

do moderate distance runs (about 2-3km) to build up foundation. maybe 3-4 weeks?

then proceed to do HIIT (6*400m).

then can do 3*800, 2*1.2km ... play around .. that's how i train for ippt at my age. hope it helps!

This is the correct way to train based on athletics 'theory'. Maybe base runs should be 3-4 km.

Easier to begin with 12*200m at desired pace with 10-20 sec jog as recovery. Then 8*300m and so on.
