2010 Mac Mini - 5Ghz Wifi BandWidth ?

Recently upgrade to Fibre and got the Aztech 7002 wifi router.

Has a Mid 2010 Mac Mini and it was strange that it can login to the 5 ghz bandwidth for using.

I thought only when you have the wifi adaptor that can support the 5 ghz bandwidth than can login ?

How Apple do it on their Mid 2010 Mac Mini ?

Tested that my 1st Gen iPad also can detect the 5 ghz wifi signal and login to use....Apple wifi chipset already so strong so many years ago ?

But my iphone4 cannot detect the 5 ghz wifi signal....

In fact the iphone 4 and 4s were not designed to use the 5ghz bandwidth. Not sure about the iphone 5, but the 5s definitely can use 5ghz bandwidth.

So if you have an iphone 4, be prepared to get a router that can SIMULTANEOUSLY broadcast on the 5 and 2.4 ghz bandwidth.

Don't be like me - bought a router that can only broadcast EITHER OR (1st gen time capsule).

If I am not wrong 5ghz is not a new tech. It is using the 'a' band.....the only benefit in the 5ghz band is that it is less crowded... but line of sight is poor.. as signal attenuation across walls and obstacles is greater compared to 2.4ghz

yup correct 5ghz is actualy 11a wifi standard is a damm old standard but got left out ago then now resurfaced

ya my old macbook pro 2011 already able to support 5ghz while some even newer on from windows latop aslo cant
so it depend on the manufacturer wana add this too
maybe this is why apple is premium vs the likes of cheap plastic winOS laptops lor

iphone ipad wiseyea it stil ok
only recent one is more updated
but their wifi speed is not as fast as a mac it got a cap it cant go beyond certain speed if u got a 200 or 300mb plan fibre
but it still good enough liao

i got my self a dual band wifi router too a 11ac from asus

and it lovely speedy on both my new mac a retina macbook pro 2013 which support 11ac and my old macbook pro and new my ip5s

My early 2009 Mac mini also can connect to the 5GHz.

Can achieve 120Mbps speed.

Not too bad.
