For games, not really. Unless the game you wanted to play is using multicore and thread effective. Which isn't a lot, mainly only the AAA titles. 2600X is budget tier gaming + streaming processor without breaking the bank.
For popular esports titles and 144hz gaming, Intel still reign supreme with high single core IPC and speed.
For multi cores and threads applications, like rendering, media production, streaming while gaming, deep learning, VMs, then ya. The 2700X make a lot more sense. Even the Threadripper make sense for these applications.
