256GB or 240GB?

SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD 256 GB

theoretically speaking the difference is 16GB.

but what is the real capacity when detected before and after installing windows.


the 240GB is higher in performance then the 256GB. but i dont mind to compromise on the performance as i prefer more capacity. so if after installing OS i have lets say 10GB more I dont mind going for the 256GB.

From what I read earlier, though I forgot where is it again,

256GB and 240GB are the same thing likewise for 120GB/128GB.
The difference in space is meant for replacing any cells that wear out in the usage process.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

get the extreme version. its really fast and u wont use all of the ssd capacity anyway

haha i understand what you mean. but i like to install quite a couple of games and each games requirement at least 10 ~ 20GB nowadays. so if i really have around 10GB more with the 256GB i could install at least one more game

For ssd, I don't think it supposed to get get max out if it's capacity. So the extra 16gb may or may not be an advantage but speed is the deciding factor.

Just install games you play and uninstall games that you have alr finish playing. Or can install your games in hdd.

I am on 120gb ssd,after installing Windows 7, adobe premier and other small programs, I still have 80gb left.

My games all inside my 1tb hdd. Loading time not very long also. Quite fast since the os is in the ssd, pulling out the game.

I also store my games in my HDD, to me, the real benefit of SSD is the significant overall responsiveness of the system. The boot up, shut down time and game loading is secondary. Besides, even if you load the fastest, you still have to wait for others in an online multiplayer match..

only install games that require constant disk access to get the most out of your limited space. For me Arma does require constant reading from disk, so i put all on my SSD, but most other games that does not require constant reading but load all content in RAM at the begining of the game, it is not really worth putting in SSD imo. Unless the loading time is unbearable, GTA 4 for example. Hence 240GB is more than enough for your typical use include OS, all tools, and some games. Do not max out SSD as it decrease performance and wear out faster in the long term.

Between the 2 models, the speed varies by quite abit. I don't think you should compare between this 2 models as it uses different controllers and memory chips. That 10GB++ must not be the determining factor for your purchase.

I think the 240GB lacks over-provisioning in case of cell wear and whatnot.
Afterall, a 256GB disk will format to just slightly over 232GB so a 240GB disk may essentially be the same after formatting, just no provisioning for cell wear.
