280 vs 280x

Seeing as MSI is out of stocks for 280x everywhere at the moment, I am looking at 280 as a substitute. How big is the difference for 280 compared to 280x?

The r9 280 is actually a 7950 overclocked a bit.

The r9 280x is a rebadged of the 7970 Ghz Edition.

In terms of performance this 2 cards should not be far apart. But the price is totally put off to buy a r9 280. Just a few dollars away you could get the r9 280x.

it seems that new r9 series GPU are just slight upgrades over the predecessors?

R290X = Twin Turbo Nuclear Reactor
R290 = Nuclear Reactor
R280X = R7970 GHz Edition
R280 = R7950 Boost
R270X = R7870 Limited Edition
