Thanks for the advice. How's your card so far?

Pretty good honestly never own a powerful gaming rig before. But from what I see I play batman Askham origin at 1080p frames go up to 110 max average 80 to 90. Battlefield haven't got the frames yet but was smooth throughout the game play

sorry to hijack but is the wf in stock at sls?

If you getting the wf because of price factor I advice you to wait ba... Like quite a lot of reviews complaining lots of issue. I rather you get a msi or sapphire card (although warranty 2 years only)

I think MSI R9-290 gaming is coming soon? not sure how good it is. guess most people are concern on:

1) GPU temperature
2) Vram temperature
3) sound from the fan?

Cheers

So does this mean it's unsafe and/or unwise to get the gigabyte 290?
imo until users cfm its fixed, its still a problem ur buying into now.
and if/when the fix is out, ur friend has to flash new bios & test-so not quite the "purely plug and play" ur thinking of.

My friend isn't into OCing so it's purely plug and play. Haha

I understand your concern but does the warranty help mitigate any concerns about the mentioned problems?

no idea. forum pple here many times mention giga distro nice pple so they'd help, no problem. but imo it'll be relying on their goodwill.
cuz technically the card works, dun think they state anywhere tat 290wf must only throttle at 94c not 84c...

Woah, sounds really technical! As mentioned earlier, will an updated bios fix this currrent problem faced by owners at this present moment?

Thanks to all for the info and advice, much appreciated!

I would say 290 is enough for 1080 gaming. 290x is only marginally faster. I bought 290 unlock to 290x before. Not much of a difference (clock for clock only 7% faster). Just get non ref 290 and oc it.
