Go for HGST for maximum reliability.

Go for Toshiba for reasonable reliability and lowest budget.

Go for WD for good reliability and reasonable budget.

Go for Seagate for maximum headache and low budget

I having bought so many drives brand since early 90s, agree with this statement.

Seagate ALWAYS give me problems within 6 months. I know some have no problems with their Seagate drives but I believe they are the lucky ones or I very unlucky.

Currently running 4x 3Tb WD green + 4x 3Tb Toshiba on 1st NAS 24/7, 4x 3Tb WD green on another NAS 24/7 for 3 years already.

Tried using a 2Tb on my desktop 2 years back to see if Seagate QC is any different after few years. Start having bad sectors about 6 months and failed soon later. Revert to WD green.

Wow, what luck you have. For readers, you need to really choose who to trust.

I can show you my WD green has been running for 31800hrs as my synology NAS do read drive health info. That's 3.5yrs approx non-stop.

So having Seagate drives conked out for my desktops really gives me no confidence to use them for NAS.

Slowly switching my drives to 8tb drives as many of my video clips are on 4k. Currently trying out 3tb Toshiba drives to see reliability.

At the end of the day, do backup your data regularly.

I think in general we all can agree that Seagate is the worst overall. So stay clear of them. No point saving a few bucks for your precious data.

If I had the budget, I would go for HGST all the way. Currently using Samsung 1TB and Toshiba 3TB in my main rig. :D
