http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/priceLists/download/509599

Prices for WD drives all there.

1TB can get WD Blue, higher cap can get WD Red. Most ppl here will tell you just don't get WD Green

y not green? :s11: ps ah, been out of it ver long time..haha

Thank for the price list :)

3TB drives are inconsistent as seen from a study (can go google for sauce)

Maybe try 1, 2 or 4. Skip the 3.

Sent from microwave oven using GAGT

Inconsistent as in the read/write speed?

Anyone know how can i open WD My Passport Essential 500GB or remove the casing?

i assume you are buying a normal HDD and connect it to a external HDD adapter right? lol

IMO, dun buy those external HDD with casing... easily spoil. Buy a good HDD adapter and you can buy as many HDD as you like for back up..

More like a docking bay connected to usb or esata or firewire. Plug the internal hdd into the bay. Like how you plug your phone to a docking bay.

I am using this one... More like a docking station...lol
So you can buy 2 HDD..1 to back up your PC, the other HDD can be use to back up your "Backed UP" HDD lol Double layer protection..

To me this is almost the same as those "Branded" ext HDD, except that those "Branded" Ext Hdd have alot of those cool program inside which i dun used it anyway.. Get a docking station instead, at least you can get to choose the HDD that u want..

able to open the casing and take out the HDD in case the casing connector fail or the HDD fail ?

@$175+ for a 4TB hdd with 3 yrs warranty, I don't think I would bother to DIY :)

Should be possible with most brands right, just a matter of how hard/easy. Have heard of people buying externals and removing the HDD for NAS as it sometimes works out cheaper than buying standalone drives.

Found a video for a similar model:

Hmm.. then how you plan to back up your "HGST Touro Desk" ? Buy another Ext HDD and back it up? That wound mean double power plug and double usb port being used..lol

IMO, Its always good to have a double back up.. I suffer a great loss when my previous Seagate Ext HDD fail... Lost most of my movies file. Most of my movies are store in the Ext HDD as my PC HDD very limited storage space... And one day the ext HDD just suddenly stop working.. From that day on, i always do a double back up.. Learn my lesson the hard way...

EDIT: Anyone know what is the price of the ext HDD during the pc show?

EDIT: Anyone shop at Lazada and qoo10 for ext hdd? Will it be cheaper over there than going down to the shop?

thats my point, dun bother buying ext hdd... just buy a HDD Docker like mine, and buy 2 nos. HDD (either WD Blue, Green or black) and do a double back up, for double security.. more flexible this way don't u think?

How much is that docking bay and it also need a power source right?

I am still open to all and more incline to ext HDD, because have been using it for very long time. Haha.

Are 2 and 4 tb getting less demand? Been to shop in sls, most don have 2 and 4 tb but only 6tb or cloud...

My Neo Docking station i bought a slightly better one (can even insert SSD), @$75, you could probably find a cheaper one.
3TB HDD (WD Green) cost abt $150 (maybe lesser now), you do the math bah..lol

And a 2 nos. HDD can be connected to a single docking station at the same time via a single power cable.

And its more flexible, you can choose your prefer Brand of the HDD (be it WD or Seagate), choose the Storage size (1 , 2 or 4 TB) and just simply pluck it in....

u mean u can't find 2TB or 4TB Ext HDD in sls?
