3 year okd PC upgrade advice

Hello,

My current rig was built 3 years back, and it's working pretty well so far, except that I do feel it's a little underpowered when playing more recent games, e.g. Hitman2 or Destiny2. Not sure which part I can upgrade to maybe make it more powerful? Not sure if the bottleneck is with CPU or GPU, or others. Advice welcome!


Here's my current config:

Intel I5 6400

Silverstone NT08-115X CPU cooler

ASRock H110M itx/d3 mobo

Kingston 2*8GB DDR3 1600 Ram

2*SanDisk 500GB SSD

Zotac GTX1060 mini 6GB

Silverstone sg13 mitx case

Thermaltake smart se 630w

You are likely to be GPU limited.

I suggest you try to OC the GPU or lower the graphics settings and see if that helps. Alternatively, an upgrade to GTX 1070Ti.

Your setup should be fine for 1080p gaming at 60fps for those 2 games.

the way i see it. if theres any bottleneck its your cpu. problem is your h110 mobo and ddr3 combo does not allow you much upgrade. the only choice u have is a 6th gen i7. assuming that u only plan to upgrade as little as possible.

If you are talking about 1440p gaming though. you might want to upgrade your entire setup.

Thank you bobozhang137. I believe you are right as I can see my GPU temp is pretty good while my CPU temp shoots above 70 very often.

I am considering to upgrade CPU+mobo+RAM combo, while retaining the rest. Do you have any recommendation?

By right this cpu and gpu are still powerful enough for almost all games

Maybe is because only 4c4t limiting some newer games that use alot of thread

If want upgrade wait for ryzen 3000

usual question...what is your monitor resolution? in addition G-Sync or FreeSync?

Mine is about 4 years old, not sure which parts to upgrade as i find it still okay in 2019.

I should add I notice slowness in just couple of games, the latest one being Watch Dogs 2, which runs like poo.

Sometimes I'll also use Steam Link streaming, and I believe a Ryzen would be better for this use case too. So yeah maybe I'll just wait a bit for Ryzen 3000.
