I have subtly asked, and found out that he is likely straight. He seem to have a few "friends" which he "plays" with, I met one of them this trip when she came to pick me up from the hotel to go for dinner. I may have misinterpreted though, my mandarin is a work in progress.

Reconnected with him recently, knew him from university days. Long story short, I am friends with his sister, she tried to matchmake us a few years ago but I wasn't too keen. My friend is currently overseas for her masters when I wanted to visit in July, but she said that her brother would show me around. I am in a Wechat group with the both of them, and this is my second time visiting, so far he hasn't done anything out of line. I thought I had been pretty careful.
