I use 16GB of ram. And my primary intensive use is gaming.

But I feel that future games might start to use more than 16GB of rams sadly. FFXV already uses up 14-15GB of ram. :(

32GB is nothing. Photo and video editing easily eats up all of it. Was dreaming to get 128GB but RAM price never drops... :o

You probably want more memory on graphic card vs memory on PC.

You can use utiltiy on windows to display actual memory usage. Not all code is in real memory,

Standard ram recommendation is 2x the VRAM. So 16GB is good for most people.

I can't do with 16GB and have 32GB on my laptop. I will max out 16GB ram which will spill over to my swap disk 16GB, cause I do load many GBs of data.

For those who think of future-proofing now with 32GB, is a bad move especially when you will never need that much for the next one, two years. You probably can buy cheaper ram in the future when you really need it or you may already future-proof to newer technology with new hardware.

With most systems still running 8GB or 16GB, most game makers will optimize their games to run at the most common specs. So even with 32GB, it may not help with the situation.

run 4 android emulator allocate 4gb + browser 32gb not enough
browser lag like hell

The question is how many people actually run these stuff man?

Anyway, it really boils down to individual usage. The fact is that most people chases after big numbers, without considering if they need it. If you really need that much ram, great.

I have 32gb of ram and FF15 sometimes uses 99% of my ram.

Games that use high quality textures will eat alot of ram, but I agree that generally 16gb is more than sufficient for most games.

It is a poorly optimized game if it needs that much ram.

I don't know what is your definition of many. The population of gamers + app developers are only a fraction of the people using computers. I am confident to say that even people that visit this forum often may not need 16GB of ram.

an interesting perception
have wondered many times also how representative is this forum or even the country of users of 32mb ram is for manufacturers to produce 32gb ram if there is no demand
bill gates did say "640K ought to be enough for anybody."

I am using 12 core E5 Xeons and 64Gb RAM machine.. 4k Rendering is much faster and dont stutter.

Example,

4k Rendering with 8 cores, 16Gb Memory = 28hrs
4k Rendering with 12 cores, 64Gb Memory = 8 hrs

:(

I wish I could render faster, but dont want to spend too much.

After reading this thread, feel like upgrading to 32gb.

With Windows 10 soon having the sandbox feature, ought to have some use, plus the shiokness that you know the chances of swapping is lesser.

When you run low on RAM, it is not visible if you just check task manager as Windows will swap out. 8GB I don’t think is enough. 16GB just right with some chance of swapping. 32gb for shiokness.

Actually cause at that time, DDR3 was stil quite affordable, and the 2nd hand market are selling reasonable priced memory. So, it didn't cost a lot to get another 2x8GB. So i went ahead.

While I never deny that there are demand for memory of 32GB or more, I won't believe that there are more people requiring 32GB or more in any countries. Consumer PCs run perfectly well with 16GB or lower.
So then why are manufacturers making 32GB for the consumer market?
1) why not since they make more money?
2) preying on more is better mentality
Genuine demand is when I often run out of ram, and thus, require more of it for my computer to operate optimally. Manufacturer made demand is to come buy more when you don't need it, just because its available and/or affordable.
This is no different between a need and a want.
