Instead of the cpu, consider what each side of the motherboard is able to provide you. Whether AMD platform suits you more or Intel.

For me, is AMD. It's a no brainier, better to have the future-ready PCIE4.0 natively supported instead of waiting on Intel side.

I will wait for Ryzen7 5700x... But will be low in stock until 2021...at least no regrets....

Otherwise just buy a Ryzen 4800 laptop. e.g, lenovo legion 5

Just get one that is within budget. Don't need to wait and wait. If keep waiting for this gen, that gen then maybe can wait until 2040.. maybe by then also wont have gotten anything.

400 chipset probably ok for rocketlake. AM4 probably support last gen of cpu.
Been with Intel since the start, but personally would wanna try ryzen. More so when you can actually upgrade cpu without changing mobo and just doing a simple bios update.

I would go down the AMD route any day due to Ryzen being a proven platform. The support for PCIe 4 is another big plus point for future proofing. However you have to remember the 5000 series CPU's are the last that will run on the current CPU socket!

I would wait for zen 3 which is due out on the 5-Nov. What sort of workloads are you running? As someone said you might be good with the 5600X with 2 cores less but higher speeds in general else the 5700X.

In the past, it was always both together but seems like my ,3 year old motherboard can be used for Ryzen 5000 so I won't change my board this time

400 series chipset launched March 2018...... At most 2 years 7 months old not counting the time gap between launch and reaching shelves...

Maybe see 3-4 months down the road the newer rocketlake gen cpu more powerful and tempted to get. At least you wont have to change the mobo if you are on current 400 chipset for intel (i think so lah).

Yup, thats why i mentioned that the upcoming rocketlake probably dont require a mobo change. Either way the suggestion is to determine the actual use case.

Not in a rush since my i7 6700 still serving me well. Me not a hardcore gamer but I only play FPS so wonder if my current cpu bottleneck my gpu (rtx2080)

Oh.... you can check whether your mobo supports 7700,
can buy second as a cheap upgrade for the time being.
(*BIOS Update will be required so do check your mobo
is running the latest BIOS.)
