Hi, I am from 39 SCE. For the first 8 weeks, you will undergo Pioneer course (Pnr), just like BMT, to assimilate you into the unit. Expect tough training and packed schedules..
Activities to expect for 1st week:
- Just like BMT, sing while marching, all the way till ORD, I am still singing purple light? Dont sing loudly, get scolded?
- Wake up at 0530 till ORD
- Collect your different suits- Individual Protective Equipment (IPE) ( LOTS of items to collect)
- Wear suits where people wear before for many batches (Unhygienic, suck thumb?)
- Wear mask where people wear before (Smelly, no choice)
- Have to wash suit and mask yourself after every training. Tired after training? Still have to wash.
- Heat Acclimatisation Training
-5BX in morning
- Battalion PT Session (Every Mon, Wed, Fri Mornings- which includes 10KM,12KM,16KM Runs, Speed Training, etc)
- IPPT Test
- Gas Mask Run

- Guard Duty
Basically, there is only 2 companies there, super duper small unit, Alpha Company and Bravo Company.
And 3 men to 1 sergeant per team will engage in “team response” and have to proceed to the incident site to mitigate chemical threats.
You will learn how to use equipments to deal with Chemical, Biological and Radiological threats. All are practices, they will create a scenario, for instance, XXX company was attacked by Sarin attack, so how your team of 4 (A sergeant and 3 men) have to deal with these scenario.
For different threats you will use different equipements. For instance, sodium hypochlorite to deal with certain chemical agents.
Basically, first week, lots of heat acclimatisation with your suits and masks. Must get used to the heat stress. There is also the iconic dig shellscrape in full suit in the forests with mask during your finale in your Pioneer course. There is also a compenent where you where full suit and mask to shoot your SAR21.
Worse of all, the facilites there is super run down, expect your area cleaning to be tough, so mucb dust, endless, like some abandoned domitory, can’t believe I slept there for 2 years.
As your time goes by, you will have to be an operational company. Which means if SG kena chemical attack, your company will deal with this threats. So basically each week, a platoon will standby for 24Hrs, no bookout for that week, stay in camp, to prepare for any imminent attacks.
Transport? (sorry no mrt to camp, have to take bus)
Bus Services: 103, 117
Take Bus 103 from Jalan Kayu/ Serangoon
Take Bus 117 from Punggol/Jalan Kayu
Nearest Nights Out Locations: Seletar Mall, Waterway Point

Book Out Time: Fri 6-7pm (For 1st 8 Weeks)
Subsequently, Fri 2-4 (Depends on performance)
1-2 Night out per week.
Good Things About CBRE: (Compared to Infantry)
1. No camo on face (U are wearing mask)
2. Can sleep in your suit (nobody knows, u are wearing your gas mask)
3. Less forest training, mainly deal with threats in urban spaces, buildings, etc
4. No overseas trainings, so dangerous
5. Small unit, more care and concern
6. Lower commander to men ratio, 3 men to 1 sergeant, sergeant can be friends with u
7. Sergeant also take part in training, they shag, you shag, fair and square. They have no energy to lecture u.. wearing gas mask and suit is tiring for everyone
We share the same camp with the combat engineer, bridging unit (35SCE). Always kena bullied by them during guard duty. 35 SCE owned 90% of the entire seletar camp, while 39 SCE owned merely 10%, we are a super small unit, our unit is only 140 people at most.. Always during guard duty, all the 39 SCE kena do sentry, while the 35SCE do prowler. We have highlighted this issue many times, nobody can be bothered about it.
No shelter in this unit. Buildings are located far from each other. If rain, bring your gortex jacket, always have to use often
