There is a full range of 3D Printers available in the market. I suppose you are referring to desktop range of printers with their prices lower than $5k. In that regards, you can look at
- MakerBot Replicator 2/2X
- Portabee Go
- Portabee Classic Printer (RepRap)
- Fabbox
- Explorer
- Pirate3D Buccaneer
- Ultimaker
Generally, if you are looking at something that is ready to go with local support, MakerBot, Explorer and Portabee will be a good choice since both of them have retailers supporting them. However, since I do not have hands on experience with other printers except MakerBot, so I shall not comment on the others.
For MakerBot, we usually recommend most of our clients to get the Replicator 2. It is simple to operate and all you need to have your first print is to press a few buttons to get it done. Besides, after being on the market for 1-2 years, there have been minor design alterations and what we have now is a stable printer that prints rather consistently. Here is one of the standard 3D Object available for print.
Of course, as with all Desktop Printers, there are bound to be some hiccups such as nozzle being stuck with filaments and so on, but luckily, it is easily serviceable and you can learn it too if you are keen. (One of our adventurous client just went ahead to strip the Extruder Assembly apart to clear the clog himself.)
It is just two screws to access the inner assembly. Nothing to fancy.
Anyway, what I recommend is that you head down to the following retail shop to take a look first and try out their printing quality. By then, you will have a clearer picture and can make a decision from there.
