Hello all!

Have been lurking for awhile in HWZ, finally created a new account. haha.

Am a new user here and am doing 3D printing related things. Are there anyone else doing 3D printing too?

for those who are adventurous and is willing to get-your-hand dirty and *** assemble your own printer ***
u can check out e-bay
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=3d+printer&_sacat=0
got those reprap types some called themselves 'prusa i3' types
they go as low as usd $200 (~sgd 300) (some incl shipping)

i prefer the 'delta' type of printers
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=delta+3d&_sacat=0
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=flsun+3d&_sacat=0

though i got myself a 'conventional' X-Y-Z head type,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-FLSUN-...lls-Filament-Acrylic-Heated-Bed-/182229510091 - take note got shipping chargers hor, don't click then regret
ship in 1 big package, havn't assemble yet :s13:

btw hor the printers are called 'prusa'
http://www.prusa3d.com/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prusa_i3
bcos the inventor ' Josef Průša' is 1 of those people who created and open source the 3d printer (pr-usa has nothing to do with usa) :s13:

http://reprap.org/wiki/About
http://reprap.org/
then this 'reprap' guy (Adrian Bowye) http://reprap.org/ is also quite famous

of course those china 1s all copy cat lah - open source mah :s13:

for those who are 'outside' the 3d printing universe,
http://www.thingiverse.com/newest
thingverse is the place to scratch your curiosity,
u go look at it now, then maybe an hour later go and refresh again, maybe people has uploaded perhaps another 100 new 3d print models on that site, there could literally be thousands (hundreds of thousands? millions?) 3d models out there :s13:
3d print defacto is STL file format

then the more premium type shoppers can check out
https://www.shapeways.com
u click buy they 'print' and ship to u :s13:
think there are more than just shapeways these days

3d printing is still not for 'mainstream' that heated head is around 200 deg C (fire hazard!) to melt plastic (it is a real fire hazard cos some big models can take hours maybe even days to print, & u are leaving that 200 dec C unattended if it become a fire u may not even have time to react) , then there is horrors of choked nozzles etc, & 'assembling' your 3d printer, not really 'child's play' & certainly not as simple your laser or inkjet printer :s13:

googling around and happen to run into this china 3d printer supplier

delta 3d printer for usd $139 about sgd $210 (assuming 1.5)
http://www.reprap.cn/k200-single-head-delta-3d-printer-kit-support-multi-material-p-191.html?cPath=4
+usd41 if want heated bed

xyz 3d printer for usd $149 about sgd $220
http://www.reprap.cn/he3d-prusa-ei3-single-3d-printer-kite3d-extruder-p-182.html?cPath=4

for those very low cost printers better compare specs
http://www.reprap.cn/3d-printers-diy-kits-c-4/

shipping cost is not mentioned, better check if transacting with them

note that all these are normally shipped as kits - i.e. assemble yourself
3d printing also involve a lot of things / skills that 1'd need to pickup such as bed leveling, various test prints tunings etc, cheap 3d printers are basically cheap low cost 'robots' i.e. many things are most likely manually tuned. an 'arduino' board basically drives the 3 stepper motors and control the heating

there may be corners cut esp perhaps substitute with 'cheaper' motor or electronics (the power supply & the driving board which may be an 'arduino' type of board they are not necessary different or bad.

the more conventional 'cheap' printers should ship with RAMPS type of board though a lot of times it is hard to verify unless one ask the manufacturer, they may substitute with even poorer functionality crippled board (note this is not necessary true, need to check with manufacturer)
RAMPS
http://reprap.org/wiki/Arduino_Mega_Pololu_Shield
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...board.TRS0&_nkw=3d+print+ramps+board&_sacat=0

basically my guess is the cheaper the printer the steeper the tech know how and 3d printing know how, 1 needs to get into to just evaluate if the purchase is after all worth while. e.g. for a 'raw' 3d printer would 1 be able to go around the internet and download purchase s/w assemble a software suite to run the printer? u may even need to *flash* the firmware like those 'arduino' type boards e.g. RAMPS which is good if you get a conforming one

for Delta 3d printers, Rostock is one of the earliest
http://reprap.org/wiki/Rostock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkAwOxA0lq8
impressive! but initially i couldn't understand all the sophisticated mechanisms and movements and 'play safe' with xyz 'conventional' printer
:s13:

Delta 3d printers are *delta robots*
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_robot

accordingly the key in this delta robot tech is *speed*
for 'conventional' xyz printer, normally u need to move the motors up/down and horizontally forward/back / sideways- that's heavy

for delta printers only the hot end / nozzle moves, the controller run the 3 motors run 3 belts driving 3 arms in parallel together to do all that print
the software / electronics / motors / belts and *alignments* better be good for all the complicated geometry moves and all 3 parallel arms together in a 3d dance :s13:

You can get a decent 3D printer from China website range between $200 to $300. But of cause you need to assemble yourself. Or you can offer someone to assemble it for you. Get a premade one if you can afford.

During some event like IT show or makerfaire, booths will set up to promote 3D printing lesson, and comes with a free da Vinci 3D printer. But the lesson fee is $500. The problem is that the lesson is really very basic, and the 3D printer must use their own ‘ink’, or what we filament. And it is expensive. You can find online to hack it, so that you can use generic filament. But very troublesome.

Because the course give free 3D printer, you can easily find the same da Vinci 3D printer very cheap on Carousell. Get that if you know the ways to hack the proprietary filament.

Personally I bought anycubic kossel style 3D printer. Has some pro and cons about delta style. But in the end, it’s up to your preferences and needs.
