we can safely assume he is not a hardware enthusiast and doesn't upgrade often. (if he does he will most likely have some parts that can be reused.

I'm personally a fan of MSI and ASUS

1 GPU cant be expected to last long if you wan maintain high settings. Along the years, sure will be tempted to change, even if its x60 series....

I would have pick Sabertooth Z77 but the price in SG just doesn't justify the cost... and more over once it is out of distribution, the warranty is horrible to claim.

I didn't include mechanical hard disk for big storage is because i suspect he can still re-use.. (my system still have a hitachi 250GB) =x

I didn't include OS because your friend might be a student or got cooperate connection so it can be quite cheap!

the SSD and GFX is my selling price =x a bit shameless but still trying to be within the budget !

Basically the SSD, PSU and Casing can most likely be reused for your next upgrade in 3 years time.

Posting this on behalf of one of my friends. He is looking to get a new computer as an upgrade of his current computer(Does not plan to reuse parts), which is not performing very well. He does primarily gaming and a little video editting.

He says he will be willing to spend up to 3k, but if possible to be around 2k will be better. I don't think he will be overclocking.
Will require monitor,kb/mouse & os.

A gaming com with a budget of $2k to $3k without at least $450 to $650 graphic card is not going to be a gaming com.

Over provision of graphic card for a gaming com is common. Would you want your friend whom u had recommended his spec to knock on your door after 1 year telling you that he cant play the latest title at high setting. Reason being, you recommended him a card which was just enough for his usage at that period?

I believe he will feel cheated even though u did not. Or worse still, you tell him change a gfx which is only 1 year old so he can max those settings.

Not all ppl have the time, interest, energy or skill to meddle with the computer.
Changing parts may not be a hassle to you but that don't apply to everyone.

Hope someone can give him a better recommendation for a GAMING rig within his budget.

My system cost me close to 3k as well, excluding the audio equipments.

Just get a cheaper motherboard with 4670 chip eg : asus H87 pro.. and a cheaper casing that cost $100+.

That kind of budget very easy to fit a MSI 780 lightning inside..
