Just to do It quick check here. What are you 4790k temps when you OC it?

Please post temps, core multiplier, uncore multiplier, vcc and vid and cooling setup

I'm getting 80-90c; 48x, 40x, 1.8v, 1.35v custom loop with ek evo.

This is definitely higher than what I got with 4770k. Something wrong somewhere?

Temps are normal. Blame the crappy TIM. Thats why many people resort to delidding the CPU.

If you want 70C, you need to delid and apply liquid pro.

Actually, custom loop is not really much better than AIO. The reason is due to the TIM used......

Also, 4790K has HT so you are running 8 threads, this will result in more heat produced.

imo 1.35V is a bit high...mine 4.4 all cores at 1.18 max 70C with AIO fan max at 60%...

Intel's Devil's Canyon "upgraded" TIM is just as bad or worse than the previous Haswells'. I delidded my 4790k today and immediately saw an almost 20degC reduction in temps. Previous 4770k was 15-18degC. The insides of the IHS was pretty bad for TIM application. It looks like the die and the IHS wasn't making good contact at all.

Now I'm running aida64 without changing any of my settings and I'm getting max of 71-78deg C across all cores.

71-78C looks good. No idea why Intel refuse to use solder instead.... Save us the trouble of delidding.

Btw, I just saw your Vcore... It looks very high. Just becareful, Haswell is known to degrade very fast or even die on high Vcore.

If i were Intel I may do the same. If you only competitor is not doing well, don't go full out lest the competitor has something up his sleeve. Intel maybe keeping that trump card in case AMD come up with something to match DC's temps and perf.

my Vcore is set to 1.8 and Vid 1.35. Aida64 pulls them a bit higher.

Don't think soldering will help much though. Cause even with lowered temps, most 4790K are limited to around 4.7-4.8GHz.

Vcore 1.8V I think you meant your VCCIN right? Btw, recommend you not to exceed 1.3V on Haswell.

At the very least we no need to delid the damn thing though.
