4TB harddisk

thinking of getting 2x4TB hdd for storage.

will not switch on 24/7 operations. maybe switch on a few times a week for a few hours each time.

Which should I get? Seems like Hitachi 4TB no more in the market?

then WD Green or Red? Prefer the longer warranty (3 years) as compared to Toshiba and Seagate which is 2 years.

Any comments on WD green reliability? Dont have much choices though..

or shld i get WD RED?

better reliability? read more and seems green has quite a high failure rate after 1.5-2 years due to some forced 8sec return feature

3tb seems better bang for the buck for each TB

Seems like this is a 1 time investment for you dude. Just get 2x4TB Red, setup your RAID and forget about it. One time heart pain better than few years down the road, you find not enough space with 3TB. 4TB should be able to last quite a while.

hmm.. i suppose it depends on your config for green if you not running any raid config the "forced 8sec return feature" should not affect much

will have to do housekeeping and not keep every piece of data

I classify any drive as failed when it fails the smart test.

Do not blame yourself for rotten luck. Irrespective of model/brand in today world, mechanical HDDs are prone to fail even before warranty expires! Why? Quality has gone south together with falling prices.

If you scan through the Western Digital RMA thread, you will see I RMA a number of WD Blue models.
