and best place to get cheap price?
what's the power consumption like?Just build a DIY NAS.
I am using the below Hardware, price are from Fuwell, as correct as May 2013, price may change a little, should not be much:
Fractal Design Node 304 - $129
Asus P8H77-I + Haswell 2120 - $253
Kingston DDR3 4GB x 2 - $86
Seasonic S12II Bronze 80+ 520w - $89
Total damage $557
Optional upgrade, get a Lan card, as the MB one is alittle slow, i have extra, therefore i didn't purchase this.
I am running FreeNas 8. Very cost effective and this is for a home setup for file sharing at home. I have not bought any DNS, so currently sharing is on local.
Using 3TB WD RED x 3 of them, running RAID 5
Maybe using My Republic.what's the power consumption like?
btw you don't need to "buy DNS" to get remote access... see this OpenVPN on FreeNAS 8.2 | The Joe Paetzel Method

DynDNS that is mentioned in the guide you shared no longer provide FREE service. It cost $25USD per year currently
Used to be free many years back, when i am still using a DLink Nas
