Some ppl might look at it as “future proofing” whatever that means. So if they upgrade to a or another high end gpu in the future and play present games at that high refresh rate
There is no such thing as future proofing in IT.
Take a look back at 2014, what mobile phone u using? I'm willing to bet u can get a phone with the same exact specs as 5 years ago at 1/2 the price or cheaper.
The same can be said for computer hardware. Now I buy 240hz monitor at say 800 bucks. 5 years later a new model is released and can run 240hz at 300 bucks. Also, gpu has improved again and my xx60 can run 240hz ultra no prob at 400 bucks.
So your 2080ti and 240hz monitor which you buy today is basically worth peanuts 5 years in the future. So why not I buy it when it's much cheaper? Especially when I can't even support 240hz with my current hardware.
