7970 EK waterblocks

Just a friendly reminder to anyone here who has a 280x and wishes to get a full cover waterblock from EK.

According to their website,they mention all reference 7970 blocks are compatible with the current 280x since the pcb is similar EXCEPT supposedly non reference ones like the Asus DC II variants.

I was dumb enough to believe them and got TWO and now both don't fit.

So be warned!

Might wanna elaborate how its not fitting. Also, pretty much every popular mainstream card out there now has its PCB in very high resolution fully documented on the web now, so a bit on your part never do enough due diligence too.

True,could have done more on my part but EK also misled me into thinking they fitted.I checked out the PCB online,looked okay but only found out one mounthing hole is off and 3 capacitors were in the way.

I believe on EK site, they have a compatibility page where u could check if your GPU is suitable for their blocks. They will provide various ways of checking including actual testing as well as visually tested.

Did you use the page to find out before buying? Are your 280x also using reference board? One lesson to learn is to always get reference cards for WC GPU. Makes your life easier and also not restricted to just one brand of WC blocks.

Problem is 280x don't really have any reference designs per say.I did use the configurator,and it stated that they don't want full blocks for 280x BUT they also have a page indicating backwards compatibility.My fault for being trusting i guess.

Will definitely learn from this expensive mistake.Cheers
