Hello all

Is it possible to xfire 7970 in x16 and x4 configuration. Will there be a noticeable performance hit?

depending on whether ur mobo have any support for xfire.

dun bother to xfire on 16x and 4x. it wont scale well.

go for 16x 16x, or 8x 8x. depending on ur mobo spec.

I have a gigabyte z77 ud3h mobo, certified crossfire ready. Will it scale well with x16 and x8?

I can't find the mobo you specified. Only have z77x ud3h. As far as I know for gigabyte motherboard the suffix 'x' denotes sli compatibility. For those without that suffix eg z77 ud3h, only crossfire may be supported provided there are 2 x16 physical slots available.

Crossfire and Sli have different requirement. For crossfire it is enough to have x16 and x4 electrical slots. Whereas Sli requires at least x8 in any slots eg x8 x8 or x16 x16.

Depending on resolution, generally the bandwidth on the x4 slot will drag down the other causing the maximum potential performance to be unrealized. So generally it is better to dual gpu on at least x8 slots

A bit of background info

I game at 1080p resolution, games such as BF3/4 and skyrim.

So for hd7970 crossfire x16 and x8 scales well enough? (noob to this type of thing =:p)

PS Sorry for confusing you muddle, accidentally committed out the x in "Z77x UD3H"
