Is it possible to squeeze in Hualien for Taroko tour?

On sat you can squeeze in a night market. Maybe tonghua or shida? i don't know... there are loads so up to you. And you can explore east village (dong qu) between zhongxiao fuxing/zhongxiao dunhua and shop at sogo etc. (if so the go to tonghua as it's nearer)

On sunday you might be able to squeeze in Beitou hot springs? You can go cycling from tamsui to bali island, that's nice as well...

thurs you could potentially squeeze in Yeliu and/or houtong. Also consider doing pingxi OR shifen (both about the same, can release sky lanterns there)

overall i think your itinerary looks great, compact but feasible.
i don't know how to 'squeeze in' hualien because you can easily spend 1/3 or 1/2 a day traveling to and within Hualien, so 2d1 in Hualien is definitely not enough. you need like a good 2 nights to cover the main attractions (and i'm saying just touch and go, not like leisurely enjoy them...)

If you're not big on nature then just give Hualien a pass. personally i like it better than SML/Taichung, but that's my own preference. it's very laid-back and chill. Scenery is nice, but not much shopping to do.

If you're thinking of replacing something to go to Hualien however, then the first thing you should consider is to replace Taichung/SML with it, but probably you'd not wanna do that.
