I know RAM is pretty cheap, but do any of you with 16gb ram find that you ever even need to utilize close to 8gb of memory? esp for gaming?

And for those with 8gb ram, do you run into problems with a lack of memory?

From what I've read so far, you can have 8gb ram with several browser windows open in the background while playing Witcher 3 and there still wouldn't be any issue. Is that accurate?

Well it's true though that most gaming does not required that much of ram. Buts still depends on which games u playing. 16gb is more for those wants to open 50 chrome pages, doing videos rendering etc.

bought a pair because price OK, next few years no need upgrade or consider incompatibility since different batch years apart

so far the max utilization I seen is 6gb only ... gaming + browser never close + task manager and 2 more temperature monitor program

Think most game studios are mindful to design their games to run on consoles too, and 8gb ram is the target. In case a business decision is made to produce a version for console.

Running Fallout 4 alone, around 6.5GB. With Chrome and a few tabs, will go to 7-8GB.

Galactic Civilizations III. The "insane"-sized maps have more than 400,000 tiles and need 16GB of RAM to run relatively smoothly.
