Caning is mandatory for victims who are between 14 to 16 even if there is consent when the offence was "exploitative". The age gap is a factor to be taken into consideration. The DPP submitted that it was "exploitative" but there is nothing in the news on the position taken by the court. If the court concludes that it is "exploitative", caning becomes mandatory even when there is consent.
