1080 is sufficient. I usually just play cs go and Dota. But might try games like over watch etc. Can anyone post a build that they'll recommend for 2 to 2.5k?

Usually you invest that amount you might want to include as many games as possible

Either way what specs we recommend certainly will depend on the resolution you wanted to game at.

1080p
1440p

or

4K (insufficient for your budget)
Correlation does not imply causality; willing to spend alot of money doesn't mean playing all the AAA titles.

What if he only plays older generation titles or only mobas/competitive fps. Wouldn't that require some consideration as well?

We must also put into consideration future games he will play ma..
A 1070 seems like the best option considering the option of future upgrade to 144p0

Like this never ending le. As of now, 1070 and 1080 looks good. Next yr release 1170 and 1180 then restart again.

Like what moodless say, future game title too...

Who knows what he likes by den, so if he is willingly to fork that budget, we try our best to give him the best specs for the price, which of cos inclusive of the games he is planning to play today.

There is no harm also.

What's the difference between B150 and H170 mobo?

How about 6500?

H170 will have a bit more features than b150
But do u need a lot of extra features? If not get B150.

6600 vs 6500 is only a few gihz diff if u wanna save money get b150 with 6500
