CEO Sundar Pichai said the company had hired too quickly and couldn't keep all its staff on in the current "economic reality.

yet coincidentally many they retrenched were those worked for decades. celery too high?

Another laid-off engineer said that the mass terminations showed Google viewed its employees as "100% disposable

realities ...

Must thank Elon Musk who shows that terminating 40% of Twitter employees and Twitter still functions just as before. Means these retrenched are indeed disposable

Ntuc point thread?

Good times hire many from same village/same school, citing neccesity for manpower.

Bad times retrench the senior ones, citing financial constraints

Who are left behind? All kaki Lang?

There is no loyalty from the employers any more.
They are just loyal to one thing - profit.
The management is just doing what is necessary.
The same thing will happen to them one day.
IMHO.
Employers have learnt that there is no longer loyalty from employees.
Not doing one's fair share of work also may consider as not being loyal.
For some truly loyal employees, they are collateral damage.
