Depends on your budget...

1) Mexico (most expensive)
2) Australia
3) New Zealand
4) Philippines (least expensive)

I prefer Skylight - Australia abalone. And do not throw away the soupy in the can, use it for yr steamboat or simply add it to your soup, it will greatly enhance the flavors. I will wait till nearer to CNY then buy it from supermarkets. They will usually have better discount during that times..cheers!!

Why Mexico one so ex? any reasons?

Anyway I get Australia's New Moon brand.

It has the best taste and texture when compared to the rest. So whether it is mexico from calmex, New Moon or Skylight, it is still the most exp in their own brand. If u try mexico regardless of brand, you will definitly skip New Zealand next time. Australia ones still okay.

It is up to individual so long u enjoy it. If one feel that there is no diff, then do not spend on a more costly one.

But think again, if no diff, why it has been so exp all these years...and price nvr drop.

Good for u, hope u enjoy it.

Some pple feel that all abalone are the same, perhap it may be due to wrong way of eating it such as throwing it into steamboat, frying it w vegge or mixed with archa. That for sure will kill off the taste. All abalone are actually cooked when u bought them in can meaning u can eat it straight form the can. Just need to sliced it into pcs like sashimi (not as thick la) and enjoy... :)

You can open up the can a little then gently steam it until the abalone is hot and ready to serve. Do not bring the liquid in the can to a boil as this will toughen the meat.

For steamboat lovers, just dunk the sliced abalone in the broth for a few seconds then pop it into your mouth. Never leave the abalone in the boiling soup for too long as it will turn rubbery.
