Bought an i7 Dell 14" demo laptop yesterday night with free upgrade to 8gb ram, 1 year warranty and the 8 in 1 freebies, so with the addition of Microsoft office 2016, the total cost was $798... do you all think that it was a good deal despite it being a demo set?

and only after i paid then i realised that the shop is from sim lim square... but not all shops in sim lim square are bad right?

Hmm you have bought it already and tested it to be working well right ? Just tell yourself that u got a good deal and move on . Why subject yourself to unnecessary stress thinking about all the other factors that would not change the situation . As Long it's working as per advertised I Guess it's a decent buy. Of cause if it's not performing up to standard then need to go bang table .

Yes not all Sim Lim Square shops are bad .

Well if that i7 is skylake or kabylake that is HQ/HK series is definitely worth it lei. But if it is u series, still quite OK.

Since not much info from you. I will say that it's still alright. (Even though that laptop u got have been molested by many ppl lol.)

As long as you check screen is ok and all the function works, should be ok. Not all Sim Lim Square shops has problem. Some are actually quite good.

The model is Dell Latitude E7440 i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz 2.70GHz, 64-bit OS, x64-based processor.

I don't know much about computer processors except for the fact that celeron, pentinum, atom processors are not good while i7 will be the best, so when I heard from the salesperson that this laptop was i7 I thought that it was good..

So far it's working well... except that the webcam doesn't seem to be detected and the names of the standard windows 8 apps such as calculator, calendar, scan, alarm, mail etc are in malay (even though i have removed malay from the language settings and changed the main language to english) but when i launch those apps, the contents are in english so i guess it's just a small matter.

The warranty is provided by the shop not Dell though... It would have been better if it was provided by Dell am I right?

i7-4 means it's a 4th generation model
Intel just announced 8th gen

So that means the model is around 3 years old
Should be considered a refurbished or 2nd hand set

In this case, the price is considered expensive

Edit: unless your free office 2017 is legit version that comes with CD installer. Then maybe still considered ok considering the price

There is nothing you can do except to let it go and enjoy it?

Is it a demo set for the show or a demo set they put in their shop and took the chance to sell it?

I see... The microsoft office 2016 is without CD, just a brochure kind with the product key inside. Thanks for the information anyway, I will take note of that when buying laptops in the future.

The salesperson said that it was a demo set for the show...

Anyway, thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate it. It is my carelessness and stupidity for not researching on computer processors beforehand, but now I know so I will be more careful in the future.

MSOffice installation is done through online. U have to download it. No people uses CD now. Just key in the serial found in the brochure after installing.

As what people said, 4th gen is most probably a refurb set as its 3yo+ stock
