hello guys.. my kid just turned two. some little bird told me that i should start planning for her primary school and start doing volunteer work (isit too early/kiasu?)

i dont have much knowledge about this. i did a bit of read up and find what the little bird told me was misleading.

https://beta.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-registration/registration-phases-key-dates/?pt=2B

long story short, i have few questions:
- when can i start registering my kid for p1 intake?
- when should i start volunteer work at my preferred school?
- volunteer 40 hours is enough? or there is a recommended hour?
- how do i start volunteer work? email the school?

thanks in advance

1. Registration will start during the year of 6th birthday. Usually during June period.
2. Ask the sch. Please take note that some sch conduct interviews and select based on parent's skill set.
3. Depending on sch's requirement
4. Contact sch

Dis you consider own/spouse pri sch? Sign alumni (phase 2A1) or register as old boys/old girls (phase 2A2)?

I guess your frds ask you to prepare early is to move to somewhere near the sch too.

think they r also capping on the number of parents volunteers, especially with Covid19.

and no guarantee that being parent-volunteer will get u the ticket to the school that you want your LO to go to.

any schools that are nearby your present home?

Good luck. Confirmed ballot. Some school so popular that need to ballot for phase 2A.

2C dont even have chance to ballot. Better check kiasuparent for past few years history.

Min 20 spots but 100+ people ballot. Really need to pray hard.

for many people, 20 slots is better than 0 slots. whether to try luck is up to oneself.

1 thing for sure, the 100+ people will be more than happy if more people dun wan to ballot.

when your child due to register? 2021?
if u r not alumni (by MOE definition is either formally join school alumni (under phase 2A1 or is former student of the school by proof of report book [phase 2A2]), then minimum start is phase 2C

and because the schl i believe also dont want to over-supply of too many parent volunteers to deploy for sch events etc, given now the Covid safety mgmt measures etc.
i wont be surprise if too big list, they also dont want a case of moment the kids get in, the parent volunteer suddenly MIA for obvious reasons etc

perhaps MOE should review whether alumni should still be priority. my kids' ages are more than 6 years apart and the second one may not be able to get in the school because alumni priority only applies for parents, not siblings.

and do take note alumni priority makes difference i.e betweeen whether you have join their formal alumni set up by the school vs being former graduate of the school but didn't join alumni

2A(1) - Alumni
Parent is former student, and signed up as an alumni member
Or parent is a member of the Advisory or Management Committee

2A(2) - Former student
Parent or sibling is former student
Or parent is school staff member
Or child is in MOE Kindergarten located near the school

Applies for siblings too just under another category.

Should remove all the priority categories, put everyone to the ballot for fairness and transparency.
