Where do you guys learnt about choosing pc parts and which parts that are best suited for your needs? I would like to educate myself in that area cause it seems interesting. Any links on guides or stuff like that? =]

Try watching LinusTechTips on YouTube. They have lots of information on hardware, benchmarks, build guides for different budgets/purposes and even step by step DIY PC building.

Many years ago I took the path of PC DIY based on friend's recommendation and not having much knowledge on computer parts and definitely didn't know how to remedy the PC when issues arise.

Thus wasting money on PC repairs without actually getting anything repaired. From then on started visiting forums like HWC, guru3d, techpowerup and watching Youtube videos from Linus Tech Tip (used to be NCIX Tech Tips) and OC3D TV just to name a few for build guides and PC component reviews and learnt a lot of stuff online.

I did my first build recently. A bit daunting at first, starting from scratch, but basically just took my time to read, research, watch videos, etc. Google, youtube, forums. Once you've figured out what your needs are, then search for previous threads posted by people with similar needs. So for my case, I googled "Video editing rig build" (and the same thing for each part you're interested in) and just read through like the first 10-15 pages of results at least.

Refer to builds recommended by other people. Research and read about those parts, understand why those parts were recommended over others. Take notes for your own build.
